Thrive on Crawford is The NRP Group's first "Health and Housing" partnership in the state of Texas, developed in partnership with JPS Health Network. This community will bring 60 affordable and seven market rate units adjacent to a key site in JPS Health Network's expanded campus to enhance health care services for residents and provide quality housing options near a major Tarrant County employer. "The vision was to partner with JPS Health Network to look at these non-traditional housing partnerships to understand how we can provide more than just affordable housing through additional essential services and access to health care," said Vice President of Development Max Whipple. Have you ever stepped into City Hall? Most people are intimidated by the idea of heading into their city or county center when they want to enact some kind of change. This is one of the critical aspects of a healthy city initiative. It gives community members -- especially those in unincorporated or more rural areas -- a place to come together to support one another and discuss the things that are really important to them. The locus created by a healthy city initiative provides a foothold and an anchor that lets people get involved and feel more comfortable in doing so. They learn that they are not alone in wanting to see things done differently, and they find like-minded people willing to do the work with them to see the change happen. Without a central point to gather -- something that is reality for so much of our enormous region -- people feel isolated and alone. Healthy city initiatives serve to bring them together. The fact that people are struggling to put food on the table is a failure of our economic system, a crisis: we need fundamental systemic change. People, and especially people who have been marginalized by our current systems are rolling up their sleeves to create alternatives, to build community and to contribute to defining what an equitable system might look like.
