The first health and wellbeing open day of the year took place at Robin Park Leisure Centre on Wednesday. Among the fantastic health-focused partners to attend was Health First who were on hand to give information and advice on the MMR vaccine, the most effective way to stay protected from against measles, mumps and rubella. The MMR vaccine is recommended for all babies and young children, but older children and adults can have it if they were not vaccinated when they were younger. Unsure about your vaccination status or if your little ones are up to date? Just get in touch with you GP who can get you booked in for any catch-ups that you need. Vaccination is the most effective defence against measles. While it is possible to contract measles even if you are vaccinated, efficacy is estimated between 85-95% with a single dose, rising to nearly 100% with the second dose. Vaccinated people who contract measles typically experience much milder symptoms. 😷 If you think you may have been exposed to measles, or have symptoms of measles, please call HealthLink at 811 to review before seeking medical care. If you have additional questions, talk to your family doctor. #MeaslesAlberta #MeaslesVaccination #PrimaryCareNetworksAlberta #ABHealth
