"I really see the social determinants of health focused on where you're born, how you're aging and what you're life, work, and play is like." The Center at Sierra Health Foundation's Senior Program Officer Myel Thelen Jenkins shares her definition of the social determinants of health. Myel reflects on the importance of engaging community leaders in effectively addressing community problems. At The Center, we value the expertise and experience that our partners bring when it comes to the issues and concerns facing their communities and the knowledge to create solutions. https://lnkd.in/ggRgJxK8

I teach social workers exactly how to create a six-figure practice that lets them work less hours, increase their impact and live their life on their terms. #socialworkers #startupleadership #enterpreneurship #careers
# socialworkers #ohnasw #nasw Timely article - If you decide to stay in the field and do not start your own business, if y'all will survive the next 20 years - this needs to be the NUMBER ONE PRIORITY OF OUR NATIONAL AND STATE ORGANIZATIONS. Who in leadership with contact Shawn Fain, UAW president to get this ball really rolling? We can not depend on the legislatures and Congress to help us. Those members are lobbied by the insurance companies and with the exception of a few legislators, answer to those companies.
Champion of Clinician Mental Health | Amplifying Voices For Systems Change | Community For Wounded Healers
Many of us are ready to be part of a collective uprising. Today at Healing From Healthcare, I'm sparking a forward-thinking discussion of the challenges and opportunities that exist with collective organizing for behavioral health professionals. I'm also sharing the data from my Behavioral Health Union Survey and asking for your thoughts and feedback as we envision both a brighter future in behavioral health and the grassroots efforts that will be required to achieve it. Your voice matters. #ClinicianMentalHealth

Crisis De-escalation Training Program Specialist, Coach, and Senior Consultant @ Insight Strategies Inc. in partnership with Curtis Boyd & Associates LLC
In advocating for a cause, one must persist until detractors turn into supporters, even if it means going beyond their formal role. Your value is set by your impact; it was never in the title. While advocacy may entail personal sacrifices and strain relationships, the eventual impact can be profound. For instance, the push for de-escalation training for transit organizations, which was later mandated by the FTA, exemplifies how unwavering advocacy can lead to positive change benefiting various public servants. This story underscores the notion that perseverance in advocacy can result in substantial gains for society at large, making the sacrifices worthwhile in the end. If you thought my advocacy and promoting mental health for public servants was about me, you missed the message! #marysson #publicservant #CIT #crisisawarenessprogram #operatorsafety #crisisdeescalation

Public Health Expert and Researcher, Community Connector, Author, TEDx Speaker, Trainer, Facilitator
Chapter 4... FINALLY coming together! I still don't think I coded right but I see the themes so maybe I did? 🤣🤣🤣 I'm still loving the pseudonyms I gave everyone. They're nods to my community (Crenshaw Blvd, Leimert Park, Slauson Ave) and the people who I look up to, like Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell, Marqueece Harris-Dawson, Yvonne Braithwaite Burke, Mark Ridley Thomas, and Nipsey Hussle! I'm researching the psychological safety of Black local health department employees in the United States. This research has shown me a lot and confirmed a lot!! I also have many many many more questions. #research #dissertation #doctoralcandidate

PIH-US envisions a future where structures of oppression no longer determine the quality or length of a person's life. We know that health systems are only effective when designed to respond to the social determinants of health such as education, income, and social protections. We work alongside local public health and community leaders to achieve this by helping partners set clear health and racial equity agendas and provide technical advising and operational support to deliver on those commitments. Great piece on how deliberative and consensus-building approaches can be used to take "the heat out of public discourse", with our own Stephanie Draper, when she was at the #StrongerThings conference. “…if you get a range of people from different walks of life, you bring them together on a human level, you give them information and a balanced set of content, and a good process, and you trust them to be able to legitimately inform and support a decision, and you get a really different conversation.” Read more 👉 https://lnkd.in/eSvss4fJ
"Deliberative approaches can help us see power differently – less about dividing pies & more about baking bread." 🥧🍞 🆕 Sometimes even the most well-meaning idea can be turned into a source of polarisation and anger. How can consensus-building approaches be used to take the heat out of public discourse? 5️⃣ changemakers share their insights, from "disagreeing well" to "working with your head, heart & hands". 🧠 ❤️ ✋ https://lnkd.in/eSvss4fJ Thanks to our contributors Stephanie Draper, Eve Holt, Samuel Augustine, Misbah Malik and Catriona Maclay 🌟 #CommunityEngagement #Deliberation #StrongerThings #Division #LocalGov #CommunityPower #CitizensAssembly #ConsensusBuilding Involve Shared Future CIC HOPE not hate Manchester City Council
