Nature-based solutions, such as protecting our planet’s blue carbon habitats, are a critical strategy in tackling the climate crisis. 🌎🌊 These powerhouse ecosystems—namely mangroves, salt marshes, and seagrass beds—both store carbon and help communities adapt to climate impacts. When these environments flourish, carbon is collected, fish stocks and food security levels are increased, marine wildlife thrives, and coastlines help protect coastal communities and support livelihoods. The World Environment Day 2024 calls for heightened awareness on environmental challenges. This year's theme, 'Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience,' emphasizes the urgent need to restore our ecosystems and build resilience against climate change. With the slogan 'Our Land. Our Future. We are #GenerationRestoration,' we are called to action to rehabilitate degraded lands, combat desertification, and enhance drought resilience. By investing in land restoration, we can secure a sustainable future for generations to come. #DIMO #WorldEnvironmentDay #GenerationRestoration

Although fires are natural in ecosystems, climate change, unpredictable weather, and unsustainable practices have made them more damaging and frequent. 🔥 This is an ongoing challenge for our restoration efforts, as fires contribute to landscape degradation and affect an entire regions’ access to vital resources, pollute the air, and threaten biodiversity. We collaborate with local communities on fire preventative measures and provide training on the safest and most effective firefighting practices. Our goal is to ensure the safest mitigation strategies for both people+planet. Together, we are making a profound impact on holistic restoration, preventing and combating the effects of climate change and wildfires. Join us in supporting local communities and our planet through landscape restoration: https://lnkd.in/g3dPFHjF

Coastal ecosystems like #mangroves, salt marshes, and seagrass meadows stash outsize amounts of carbon dioxide – regularly outdoing the capacity of terrestrial #forests. Protecting and restoring these ‘blue carbon’ spaces is increasingly recognized as critical to #climate mitigation and adaptation, as well as to food security, livelihoods, and cultures. Amidst increasing interest from blue carbon-rich countries in including these ecosystems in their climate mitigation plans – and from would-be investors in blue carbon projects and credits – CIFOR-ICRAF’s decades of ground-breaking research in this arena holds fresh relevance. Here’s your chance to wade into some of our recent work on blue carbon – without even getting your feet wet! ➡️: https://lnkd.in/dFezA3vX #WorldWetlandsDay #TreesPeoplePlanet #BlueCarbon

Today marks International Wetlands Day! A moment to recognize the vital role wetlands play on our planet. 1. 🌎 Guardians of Climate Stability: Wetlands serve as nature's carbon sinks, absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and helping mitigate the effects of global warming. 2. 🦩Biodiversity Hotspots: Wetlands are rich ecosystems, fostering diverse habitats for different species, which help promote biodiversity and maintain ecological balance. 3. 🌊 Crucial for Flood Control: Wetlands can absorb and slow down excess water, helping prevent catastrophic flooding and safeguarding both natural and human communities. 4. 💧 Nature's Water Purifiers: Wetlands act as natural filters, cleansing water and ensuring its quality for wildlife. 5. 🚰 Sustainable Resource Providers: Wetlands are a source of livelihood for many communities, providing them with fish, plants, and other natural products, contributing to the well-being of their local economy and food security. Let's join hands to celebrate and protect these invaluable ecosystems for the health of our planet and the well-being of generations to come! #WetlandsDay #ProtectOurWetlands

World Environment Day is a day supported by many non-governmental organisations, businesses and government entities, and represents the primary United Nations outreach day supporting the environment. 🌍 We celebrate World Environment Day today, a day to raise awareness of the importance of protection of the environment and to encourage us all to take action for a healthier planet and brighter future. This year’s theme is “land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience.” We cannot turn back time on the damage already done to our planet, but we can restore the damage done, by replanting forests, reviving water sources, and bringing back soils. 🌲 True to our mission "More from wood", it is vitally important for us at EGGER to act sustainably. We do aim to do this across our production processes by conserving resources and promoting climate protection, as well as supporting more tree planting. 🌳 🍃 #GenerationRestoration #morefromwood #timeformoretrees

Happy World Water Day! This year’s theme on World Water Day is focusing on 'Water for Peace.' Let's think about how water affects peace and conflict. Usually, people work together over water, but it's getting harder because of climate change and more people needing water. Climate change makes weather more extreme, leading to floods and droughts. When places don't have enough water, it can lead to issues and complexities. At Raintree Foundation, we recognize water as a vital tool for peace between communities and the planet when managed wisely. Building sustainable water management systems is crucial for climate resilience, ecosystem health and fostering peace. On this World Environment Day, we must take action to protect and revive our ecosystems. The threats to ecosystems are real, and it's essential that we proactively implement solutions. Climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution are endangering our ecosystems, disproportionately affecting rural communities, smallholder farmers, and the most vulnerable populations. Through active participation in land restoration, desertification prevention, and drought resilience enhancement, we can effectively mitigate climate change, preserve nature, and enhance the livelihoods and food security of billions of people worldwide. Collectively, let’s combat climate change and restore our land for the future. #WorldEnvironmentDay #GenerationRestoration #OurLandOurFuture
