I cant believe this happened. On Fathers day. Hard lessons to learn from. This spring I spent an inordinate amount of time clearing land and planting and orchard. I bought the trees. I thinned the fruit to the appropriate amount. I watered consistently. I went to water yesterday. And realized I had left the gate to the fence open. And that ALL of the trees had been eaten severely by deer. All the little peaches, pears, apples and nectarines gone. The deer even had the audacity to spit out the pits on the ground. How did this happen? I had been in a hurry. The last time I was there I was in a big hurry. I rushed through the job and I left the fence open! If the first rule in fundraising is 'don't loose your donors', the first rule of farming is 'close the gate'. The causes of lost donors and my lost crop are the same: Rushing 👉 We are so in a hurry to get to the next thing that we forget to close the gate behind us. We forget to send the thank you. Make the phone calls. Send the reports. Connect to mission. If you want to keep your donors--SLOW DOWN. Think through what you are doing. And make donor retention a key priority. If you want to learn more about how to keep your donors and win back the ones that have lapsed check out our blog above ☝ ☝ ☝

After the Wildfires: Rangeland Recovery Tips Article by Ron Smith for Farm Progress Excerpts: "More than a month after the devastating, historic, wildfire in the Texas and Oklahoma High Plains, ranchers are faced with the daunting challenge of creating recovery plans." After the Wildfires: Rangeland Recovery Tipsws that wildfires do not kill native perennial grasses. “Below ground, immediately following fire, we know native perennial grasses can respond and recover quickly. Bud banks can switch from a dormant status to actively growing within hours of the fire catalyst." "For now, we need to keep the animals off grassland until those below-ground roots are well compensated by their own photosynthesis, which hopefully will occur soon.” Treadwell says the rangeland recovery timetable will be “site by site. Every manager going into this was probably at a different threshold of available grass. The bottom line is, if you had grass going into that fire, you're going to have grass coming out of that fire. There is absolutely no scientific piece of evidence to suggest that a fast-moving grassfire destroys the grass." Link to full article: https://lnkd.in/gfgHgggJ
