Sony and Netflix lean on Union Production Contracts and Talent Compensation as Weighing Down Biz? Or is it the uncontrolled Duplicated Big Tech Costs by unnecessary walled garden Subscription Service Apps/Ops, Massive Consumer Acquisition Costs, and Piracy thats killing them? If 50%+ of Streaming Losses Live in these ops issues, and more so are the root of streaming consumer unhappiness... wouldn't you think the ability to correct that literally overnight with a iTunes/Spotify-like OmniChannel Media Industry Platform is a move you would try? We'll see. Solved the Music Industry's demise. Ok Now Let's look at where these leaders are laying it off elsewhere. Workers are not the issue, they are trying to pay for the high costs of living caused by the same rise of retailing up consumers. 1) Tony Vinciquerra, Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO, issued a warning Monday that the union deals that halted the Hollywood strikes are forcing production out of the U.S. https://lnkd.in/ePzD2R2y 2) The Talent Compensation Question Hanging Over Netflix Earnings Netflix’s valuation will sink over time as its growth slows, requiring a more cost-conscious approach Unless you guys have a bunch of cool production and talent robots we all don't know about...I would say start looking at the over arching costs from the top down that have got you to this failing media fallout and the final countdown decision here. As Wall Street is damn sure looking for your next move. Lifeline: FreeCast NoMAD Platform "One Agnostic Non-Competitive OmniChannel Media Industry Platform". Bringing back 50%+ Profits back to the failed Streaming Media Industry. Stop Competing for the Same Eyeballs. Easier than Roku to implement. Proven. #FreeCast #NextGenStreaming #NoMoreAppDiving #YouBundle

Union strikes and fires won't kill LA production; bureaucracy will. The slow shift toward out-of-state and international production has been on the rise for YEARS. LA Paperwork/permits are complex and expensive; it makes sense to go somewhere that's easier to operate in, won't nickel-and-dime you and offers incentivizing tax credits to majors AND indies alike. Unless you're a major studio shelling out multiples of millions per on-screen second, then LA production costs simply don't make sense. Costs have gone up--and the 2023 strikes certainly contributed to that--but inflation is really what made the margins of cost-to-profit radically shift. That said, you don't bite the hand that feeds you and LA hasn't yet learned that. Great & insightful article from The Hollywood Reporter's Erik Hayden. https://lnkd.in/gZ44Tssk

Today's international trade and worker rights class discussed the Netflix documentary "American Factory" (https://lnkd.in/d-g9va6h) which follows workers and management in a Chinese-owned auto glass manufacturing company in Dayton, OH. Previously, GM had owned the facility and employed thousands of workers. It had shuttered, leaving those workers without income. The Chinese company employed thousands of those laid off American workers, but paid them 1/2 the GM salary, disregarded occupational safety and health protocols, and openly retaliated against union organizers. We discussed the movie against the backdrop of current proposals urging Chinese-owned firms and investments to spur the U.S. electric vehicle (EV) industry and employ tends of thousands of unemployed blue collar workers in the United States. What do you think: is a bad job better than no job? Are the labor costs worth potentially environmentally-responsible (EV) gains?
