We were excited to host around 20 elementary-aged students from Girls4Science for a unique hands-on learning session on 3D printing with MakerGirl! The session aimed to inspire young girls to explore the world of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). William Blair's Women’s Alliance sponsored the event at the firm's global headquarters in Chicago. Colleagues paired up with around 20 girls to design 3D-printed creations using Tinkercad, an online 3D modeling program. Learn more about this partnership: https://lnkd.in/gcztj6G3 #WBCares

What’s in the box? Possibilities! Still waiting for the other one to arrive, but I am very excited to ratchet up my 3D printing efforts for my new project. I’ve had a lot of fun with my friend’s Original Josef Průša Mini 3D printer that I decided to get two of the new MK4s—one assembled and one kit to put together with our Department of Religious Studies, The University of Alabama students in the #RELdl Digital Lab. Many thanks to The University of Alabama College of Arts and Sciences CARSCA grant program for making this happen. 🌟 Day 6️⃣0️⃣ of #100DaysOfCode: Printing a 2D array in C! 💻 👨💻 Today, I worked on a program to print a 2D array in C. Manipulating and printing 2D arrays require a different approach compared to 1D arrays, as we need to loop through both rows and columns. This task helped me strengthen my understanding of nested loops and data visualization in C. 🖥️ I'm thrilled to see my progress and looking forward to taking on more complex challenges. Each day brings valuable lessons and opportunities for improvement. 💪🚀 #NeverStopLearning 🎓 #100DaysOfCode 💻 #CProgramming #LearningToCode #CodingChallenge #ChallengeAccepted 💪

At MakerLab, we believe that the best way for students to gain new knowledge is through practical applications. In our educational robotics program, students build and program robots, gaining hands-on skills in engineering and computer science. In this video, one of our students, Menelaos, explains how his curiosity and passion for #robotics led him to build a fully functional mechanical arm, an open design by BCN3D Technologies, when he was just 12 years old. Building such a robot from scratch requires knowledge and skills in design, 3D printing, engineering, electronics, and programming, which Menelaos gained while working on this project. #MakerLab #TomorrowTogether

🤖 Creativity is where theory meets practice! 🚀 ARPICE is driven off a Raspberry Pi, and uses a Python chess engine to generate moves and visualize the chessboard. The Raspberry Pi is the “brains” of the operation, and communicates with an Arduino that controls the arm to grab pieces. The Arduino is responsible for turning large servo motors that move the arm along the x-y coordinate plane. The Raspberry Pi waits for the Arduino to communicate back to it, saying “The move has been made!”. When this happens, the Raspberry Pi decides the next move – by either asking for human input through a Graphical User Interface (GUI) created in Python, or generating its own optimal move based on a MinMax function (a decision rule based artificial intelligence algorithm designed by rules and a scoring system) that I wrote. 🧠 ARPICE hasn't lost to a human challenger yet, a testament to its capabilities and the hours of dedication poured into its development! I am grateful to have worked with such hardworking and talented teammates, Tyler Marois, Charles Cross, and Samuel Faucher. 💡I am eager to continue to develop more extraordinary things! #softwaredevelopment #softwareengineering #devcommunity #artificialintelligence #theorymeetspractice #coding #ai #robot
Introducing ARPICE, our AI-powered chess-playing robot! Students from Professor Peter Drexel’s computer architecture class have spearheaded every step of its creation from 3D printing all of the chess pieces to assembling the 2-axis arm and coding the AI. With Arduino managing motors, Raspberry Pi giving instructions, and a custom circuit board handling interfaces, every variable was thoughtfully tested and executed. This isn't just another CS program—it's where theory transforms into real-world innovation. #ComputerScience #Robotics #Technology
