Over the next 2 years, as NCAA D1-D3 athletic departments shift non-revenue varsity sports to college club-level “AAU travel ball”, the discussion around roster size, enrollment, tuition merit awards, ROI and heads in beds will likely gain prominence. However the positive on the positive side is Athlete Entrepreneurship emerges as the new internship, offering a promising career development avenue stemming from the NIL situation, yet remains a topic not widely addressed by educators. Rural communities are the backbone of American society, if they are not prosperous we cannot achieve a country without inequality. With this investment in the UVM Leahy Institute for Rural Partnerships, the Ford Foundation hopes to empower Vermont’s rural communities with the tools they need for sustainable growth, while also providing UVM students with service-learning experiences that help cultivate the next generation of leaders.

For the past three years, one of the most difficult parts of my work has been turning away students who are HUNGRY. It's a necessary evil when building a program that relies on funding to scale impact. So, every year during my strategy season, I chew on the thought of how we expand the work of The Black Sports Business Academy. Last year, we got more involved with campus events and created a few new virtual events open to our entire community. The impact was evident, but it fell short of filling the void. This year is different. In 2025, we're on to something major. Introducing The Yard by BSBA! The Yard is a dynamic digital community that connects the HBCU sports business family like never before. This platform is an exclusive meeting ground to strengthen our community and advance our mission by supporting our most valuable resource -- US! 🧑🏽🎓 Students - you can join today for no charge as we honor our promise never to charge a student! 👩🏽💼 Leaders - we ask that you consider making a small contribution to support building our organization (and keeping that promise to students). This platform will be home to real-time sports business education and news, information on jobs and internships in sports & entertainment, forums for open discussion, workshops led by sports industry leaders, and more! So what are you waiting for? Meet us on The Yard!

Meet Alex Williams, a senior at Morehouse College in #Atlanta majoring in marketing. The Maryland native, who plans to attend law school after graduation, recently completed an internship with the African American Alliance of CDFI CEOs, a national membership-driven coalition that empowers Black-led CDFI CEOs working to transform Black economies. Williams provided communications support for the #BlackMoneySeries, a set of LinkedIn Live sessions hosted by Alliance VP Justin Minott that shine a spotlight on trailblazers and innovators in the CDFI industry who are shaping the economic future of Black America. This work experience was made possible by a LISC #HBCU internship program, supported by Citi Foundation and designed to nurture talent for community development. 📽️ Hear Williams talk about his experience with the Alliance and what he’s learned about the CDFI industry.

We believe it’s important to discuss how and if you want to contribute to your kid’s college fund. There are a lot of creative ways to approach this. 🤜You could pay a portion of their education. 🤜You could require that they apply for a certain amount of scholarships each semester. 🤜You could purchase a rental property for your child to live in for free while in college and have them manage renting out the extra rooms. 🤜They could take as many college classes as possible in high school. Many high schoolers now graduate with an associate’s degree. 🤜Look into community colleges, state schools, trade schools, internships. What creative approaches have you tried or are planning on trying to keep college costs low?

The first in a series in which I grow increasingly aware of my mortality as we interview our current crop of interns.
It's a staple of every summer at LJC to welcome a new intern class to our offices! 👏 Working with students is always a ton of fun, and this year, we decided to put the class of 2024 to the test with some LJC trivia. Check out the first installment of our intern pop quiz as they tackle the trivia question: What year was LJC founded? 🤔 Here's a hint: while our firm was founded in 1999, it was incorporated with LJC in 2019. Check out their answers and let us know yours in the comments below! ⬇️
