I have always been a fan of banks, spending approximately 20 years working for them. Many of the regional banks, in my mind, are significantly undervalued. I personally own shares of Valley National Bancorp (VLY) and KeyBank (KEY). The below article brings into light Office Commercial Real Estate to the bank's total loans. The systematic affects of hybrid/remote work, affects the repayment on office CRE loans. The article breaks down the potential risks and how the industry has adapted to cover any of these short-term losses. It does not address the costs associated with higher interest rates on deposits, however it brings clarity and calmness to, in my opinion, to this undervalued industry.
These numbers show that banks’ risk from office real estate has been exaggerated
