Beyond Populism: Research Based Solutions in Community Safety Community safety isn't about soundbites; it's about sound policy. Too often, the discourse is hijacked by populist quick fixes that lack evidence and prioritise emotion over effectiveness. Let's be clear: data-driven solutions (so often aligned with left-leaning agendas) offer a more sustainable path forward. - The Populist Trap: "Tough on crime" sounds good, but decades of research show it does little to reduce crime long-term and can even worsen inequality. The War on Drugs is a good example of a populist failure. - The Research-Based Alternative: Investments in early childhood education, physical and mental health, and addiction treatment yield proven results and those that engage with restorative justice programs are more effective than punishment alone. - Economic Justice Matters: Living wages, affordable housing, and accessible healthcare are not just social issues—they are crime prevention tools, the social determinants of justice are laid out in decades of interdisciplinary research. We need to shift the narrative. Community safety is complex, and real solutions require investment, long-term thinking, and a focus on working with and for communities to identify solutions to its root causes. #CommunitySafetyResearch #EvidenceBasedPolicy #SocialJustice #PublicPolicy #CriminalJusticeReform #PublicSafetySolutions

As long as #socialjustice is lacking in the world, the rights of millions of children around the world will remain at risk and child labour will continue to thrive. Today more than ever, addressing social justice deficits must be one of our priorities as a society.

#socialworkers #vicarioustrauma: While recognising this is an extensive quote, I wanted to keep the social worker's words the same. The vulnerability and honesty Dora shares provide insight into the impact working in child exploitation can have on practitioners and why this area of practice is different from traditional safeguarding. We still require more direction at a national level in the form of a national strategy, and services are desperate for more resources. Many of us think social justice implies equal treatment for everyone, however, the real meaning of social justice is “Fair” and “Reasonable” treatment for all. This #WorldDayofSocialJustice, stand up for justice as justice well and truly begins with you and every effort matters. #worldsocialjusticeday #SocialJusticeDay #vikasautodeal
