Exciting news! I am releasing a series of spin-off articles from my part-time doctoral research supervised by the University of Westminster, the first of which acts as a “primer” for law firm portfolio funding. In this article, I demonstrate how law firms can benefit from portfolio finance and what criteria are necessary. Portfolio finance is aligned with the successes and failures of cases, making it an attractive non-recourse and non-dilutive source of capital. It could be genuinely transformational for many firms. As an experienced corporate finance practitioner, I have advised firms and companies on securing capital from funds, venture capitalists, private equity houses, family offices and banks, over a number of years. This know-how has enabled us to develop a unique methodology to help our law firm clients to structure investment-ready portfolios and to optimize their chances of securing funding. This milestone is special. This deal was handled by me under Investment Law team. Our angel investor in this case was a regular and dear client of Firm. The deal went seamless and all documents were signed after rounds of due diligence. However, after 6 months, the client came back to us stating they are not able to locate the Promoters and there are no communications from them at all.
