Juneteenth, officially Juneteenth National Independence Day, is a federal holiday in the United States. It is celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the ending of slavery. The holiday's name is a portmanteau of the words "June" and "nineteenth", as it was on June 19, 1865, when Major General Gordon Granger ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas at the end of the American Civil War. I believe in the United States of America, as a government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign Nation of many sovereign States; a perfect union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice, and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes. I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support its Constitution, to obey its laws, to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies https://lnkd.in/gsFRwwNt

The world needs fresh ideas and a new type of politics and politicians, representing mankind as a whole and each of us as equals instead of fragmented political interests! We have to grow together in order to urgently address the issues that impact all of us like conflict, climate change, inequality and forced migration together. This we can only do without any dominance, as equals. Collectively in Solidarity. www.convergence.ngo & www.pax.ngo
I wonder why the United States calls itself a democracy, while it is clearly a plutocracy, i.e. a state or society governed by the wealthy (few), so quite the opposite. #unitedstates #plutocracy #musk #trump

Dr. Audra Simpson, a brilliant Mohawk scholar, tackles critical issues of Indigenous sovereignty and settler colonialism in her work. Her book "Mohawk Interruptus" explores the complexities of land rights and resistance movements. By following her work and engaging with Indigenous voices, we can all become better allies in the fight for justice. Check out Dr. Simpson's book "Mohawk Interruptus" and share your learnings or recommendations for further reading in the comments! #IndigenousRights #SettlerColonialism #LandBack

We are pleased to host this annual event and excited to be adding a reading of the Freedom Petition co-authored by Prince Whipple. The inclusion of Prince Whipple and the Freedom Petition is very much in keeping with the theme of independence; and invites us to recognize that our journey as a nation is long, and full of triumphs and short-comings, enlightenment and contradiction. Democracy is an ideal that requires ongoing care, practice, and tending; and the two stories shared together is an energizing reminder of that. https://lnkd.in/eUig2UGc
