Every teen is different when it comes to mental health needs, but surveys continue to show many have self-reported extended periods of sadness, and summer vacation with its break from school routines can usher in emotional struggles for adolescents missing friends and make more challenging a diagnosed mental health condition. What behavior changes should a parent be aware of and how should they be addressed? What treatment is available at MiraVista Behavioral Health Center, which offers inpatient acute psychiatric care to both adolescents and adults, and how do staff engage a teen throughout the day? What makes the services provided effective? Dr. Negar Beheshti, the Chief Medical Officer for MiraVista Behavioral Health Center and a child, adolescent, and adult board-certified psychiatrist, addresses these questions and others in an informative, 10-minute video, Adolescent Mental Health Doesn’t Take a Summer Break, that can be viewed here: https://lnkd.in/ewwNyp4F

One of the cornerstones of family therapy is family systems theory. This is a theory we have explored often in the past in relation to treating mental health conditions across the spectrum, and it is particularly relevant for those of us who work with adolescents dealing with substance use disorders and trauma. The basic tenets of family systems theory is that the family must be understood as a system of individuals connected by complex and dynamic relationships. One critical area where these dynamics become apparent is during teen development, which is a period marked by significant physical, emotional, and cognitive changes. During this time, incongruence within the family system - that is, a mismatch between what is expected and what is communicated - can cause significant confusion, anger, and resentment among teenagers themselves. 📝 Read on in our latest blog: https://bit.ly/48al9PJ #familysystems #familytherapy #substanceusedisorder #mentalhealth #trauma

In the age of digital connectivity, teenagers navigate a sea of diverse influences. 🤳🏻📱📵 Amidst the information overload, phrases like "Others control me" or "Others reject me" are common, often arising from social media, peer pressure, and societal norms. While not inherent truths, these negative perceptions can harm mental health, hindering personal growth and happiness. Swiftly recognizing and tackling these challenges is vital, highlighting the importance of seeking help for lasting positive change. Here at Beachside Teen Treatment Center and Hillcrest Adolescent Treatment Center We firmly advocate for prioritizing self-care and addressing issues related to self-harm https://lnkd.in/gDsxh8G4 #TeenMentalHealth #SeekHelp #PositivePerspectives
