Today, I was fortunate enough to help represent Vinal Technical High School at ADL’s “#NoPlaceForHate Day” hosted by the Hartford Yard Goats at their home field, Dunkin Park. It was inspiring to see schools that have been in the program from the start and those that recently joined (such as Vinal Tech) collaborate. Programs such as No Place For Hate should be commonplace in all schools. This program helps students understand equity, challenge bias, and create a culture of tolerance in our schools. These values are essential for education, the workplace, and life. Speaking from my experience in the program, even small actions can help students feel connected and safer in their schools. But how do these programs set up kids for success in life and the workplace? 1. Tolerance: In any career (and in life), you will work with people you don’t understand or agree with. Learning how to be tolerant and understanding at a young age sets children up for success in these situations. 2. Advacosy: No Place For Hate is student driven. This helps students not only build confidence but also learn how to advocate for themselves and their community. 3. People Skills: This program encourages discussion and connection. Students build meaningful bonds that could benefit them down the road, and they learn how to interact in a respectful manner. I encourage everyone to urge your local schools to adopt No Place For Hate, or a similar program. Help create better school environments for kids, and encourage them to create a better future. #equity #education #equality

'Community' /kəˈmjuːnɪti/ (from the Latin, 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑚𝑢𝑛𝑖𝑠) is now a buzzword taken to mean pretty much anything, by anyone, in any circumstance. Here at TMP we're not really vibing with this post-modern abbaration. We're about real community buidling, and that's exactly what we're going to be doing around the show. We want your input, requests, and priorities to shape the content and questions of the episodes and, over the coming months, we're going to creating online spaces and pysical meet-ups to allow community to be exactly that: a real community.
