It's Equal Pay Day! Did you know women earn 84 cents for every dollar men make — and sometimes less? You can advocate raising awareness around the impact of pay inequities and supporting those who support narrowing the gap on this and many other issues important to women and families. Make sure you are registered to vote and do it! Act now! https://loom.ly/sCjsGVw Join us today and demand Congress take action to close the gender pay gap by passing needed legislation - because in 2024, women working in the United States should not earn less than men. The Paycheck Fairness Act (S.728 / H.R.17) would strengthen the Equal Pay Act of 1963 by protecting workers from retaliation for discussing pay, banning the use of prior salary history to set wages, codifying pay data collection, and closing critical loopholes that allow employers to pay workers unfairly. #genderwagegap #equalpayday #congress #actnow #paycheckfairnessact #womenandfamily #YWomenVote #TowardEquality #GOTV #WomenAreVoting #YWCA #YWCASHR #EliminateRacism #EmpowerWomen #YWCAIsOnAMission

February 6, 2024 BPIAA Counnterpoint | Equal Opportunity is The Law of The Land Who disagrees with a commitment to equal opportunity for all based on merit system principles, the law, and equal employment opportunities for all, also the law? Below is from a 2011 Executive Order! Section 1. Policy. Our Nation derives strength from the diversity of its population and from its commitment to equal opportunity for all. We are at our best when we draw on the talents of all parts of our society, and our greatest accomplishments are achieved when diverse perspectives are brought to bear to overcome our greatest challenges. A commitment to equal opportunity, diversity, and inclusion is critical for the Federal Government as an employer. By law, the Federal Government's recruitment policies should "endeavor to achieve a work force from all segments of society." (5 U.S.C. 2301(b)(1)). All this DEI bashing is silly, as perceived “unqualified” minorities are not being put at the front of the line or displacing non-minorities perceived as”more qualified” than other similarly situated persons or groups; and moreover, disrespects the real “civil rights” struggle in this country to dismantle Jim Crow, end segregation, and refute Plessy v Ferguson and the Dred Scott decision!

CDEI professionals have always needed to be politically savvy. It is more imperative when the profession is under attack (The attacks will get worse before things get better). Your goal may be to increase racial diversity in the workplace and in the leadership, but keep that to yourself. Why? It flies in the face of sacred values such as rugged individualism and meritocracy. Never mind that neither of these have truly existed in the US, people have bought & sold these values. DEI is necessary for talent management so that should the goal instead of affirmative action. Don’t get me wrong. Affirmative action is a good thing. But here’s the thing - Most DEI personas haven’t figured out how to play the game effectively to do affirmative action within the confines of sacred beliefs about equality.

Today marks 60 years since President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 into law, a landmark piece of legislation that fundamentally reshaped American society. This act prohibited discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin, paving the way for greater equality and opportunity. President Johnson's unwavering commitment to civil rights was instrumental in passing this historic legislation. His famous words, "We shall overcome," echoed the sentiment of the civil rights movement and solidified his dedication to the cause. In this photo, we see President Johnson visiting OIC Philadelphia in 1967 with our founder, Reverend Dr. Leon H. Sullivan. This image captures a moment of collaboration between national leadership and grassroots efforts in the fight for equality. Dr. Sullivan's work, including the development of the "Sullivan Principles" in 1977, carried forward the spirit of the Civil Rights Act. These principles provided guidelines for U.S. companies operating in apartheid South Africa, promoting workplace equality and fair employment practices. As we commemorate the Civil Rights Act, we at OIC Philadelphia continue to honor both President Johnson's legislative legacy and Dr. Sullivan's ongoing work in economic empowerment. We remain committed to providing job training and opportunities to underserved communities, carrying forward the dream of a more just and equitable society for all. #CivilRightsAct #DrLeonSullivan #EqualOpportunity #OICPhiladelphia #sullivanprinciples #socialjustice

How does sexual and reproductive health relate to human rights? Sexual and reproductive health can only be achieved and maintained, to the extent to which certain human rights are respected, protected and fulfilled. Rights critical to the realization of sexual health include: - the rights to equality and non-discrimination - the right to be free from torture or to cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment or punishment - the right to privacy - the rights to the highest attainable standard of health (including sexual health) and social security - the right to marry and to found a family and enter into marriage with the free and full consent of the intending spouses, and to equality in and at the dissolution of marriage - the right to decide the number and spacing of one's children - the rights to information, as well as education - the rights to freedom of opinion and expression, and - the right to an effective remedy for violations of fundamental rights. The application of these human rights to issues related to sexuality and sexual and reproductive health constitutes our sexual rights. #AusHumanRights #FPAA
