It's day two at Energy Ireland! In our sustainable heat session, our first speaker Barry Quinlan, Assistant Secretary for the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communities discusses decarbonising Ireland's buildings and heat demand. "There is a lot of progress being made but there is a long way for us to go. The only way is up," says Barry Quinlan, Assistant Secretary of the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications. Furthermore, Quinlan states regarding the National Residential Retrofit Plan, "Ireland is a world leader in terms of our retrofit programme. We have ambitious targets and we are serious about meeting them." Quinlan concludes: "Climate change and economic competitiveness are inter-related challenges that will be addressed through the transforming of Ireland’s economy...to a low carbon economy based around energy efficiency, renewable energy, and smart networks." #EnergyIreland

🌍💡 Border municipalities are joining forces to create a borderless energy region. The development of a cross-border energy community between the municipalitities of Ralingen, Germany, and Rosport-Mompach, Luxembourg, is being hindered by varying and incomplete transpositions of EU's energy policy directives. These discrepancies in the legal framework prevent seamless collaboration and integration of energy initiatives between the two municipalities. With the expertise of b-solutions expert Thomas Stumm, possible solutions have been suggested. Curious to learn more? Check out the testimonial from Alfred Wirtz, the mayor of Ralingen: https://lnkd.in/e4bJWsPW #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #Crossborder #EnvironmentalImpact #Community

It has taken a few days to assess the findings from the eighth State of the Environment Report released by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Ireland earlier this week. Published every four years it is an extremely rich evaluation of Ireland’s environment. Some key takeaways from an industrial competitiveness and productivity perspective: 1️⃣ Despite Irish climate action ambitions, significantly faster progress is needed to decarbonise all sectors of Ireland’s economy. 2️⃣ Industrial pollution in Ireland is decreasing, thanks to a blend of regulation, developments in manufacturing, control technology and environmental initiatives. Continued investment is needed. 3️⃣ Compliance with environmental regulation across industry in Ireland is high overall. 4️⃣ Established technologies, such as wind energy, solar photovoltaics and bioenergy, will be key in meeting short-term emission reduction targets (i.e. 2030), whereas significant growth in #offshorewind infrastructure is expected to be the key essential element of future energy systems. 5️⃣ Enhanced regulatory and #planningframeworks, and support schemes, are required to accelerate the deployment of renewables. 6️⃣ Substantial challenges remain for high-intensity hard-to-decarbonise sectors, e.g. high temperature users, and the development of low or zero carbon fuels to meet these applications are needed. So, in short we need to drive policy implementation while achieving investment to transform our energy, transport, food and industrial systems. Read the report at bit.ly/SOER2024

I was delighted to represent Ireland at an EU meeting on the Energy Efficiency Directive in Brussels this week. The EED is a large and complex directive that seeks to improve energy efficiency across the EU in many different ways, and is part of the Fit for 55 package to reduce carbon emissions. There are enormous economic, environmental, health and social benefits available for Ireland and Europe if we can use energy more efficiently across society. #energyefficiency #fitfor55 #climateaction

Important days for Europe. Ursula von der Leyen's decision to link energy and housing under a single, ambitious program focused on cheaper energy, greater efficiency, and better living conditions is a wise move. And few could match the expertise and ambition that Dan Jørgensen brings to this role. With Dan Jørgensen as the EU’s new Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Europe gains a leader with a significant mandate to drive sustainability, energy security, and economic competitiveness. His role comes with high expectations: Energy: Expanding green energy production, including offshore wind farms and new infrastructure to transport renewable energy across Europe. Competitiveness: Reducing Europe’s energy costs through the development of alternative energy sources and more efficient markets. Housing: Addressing housing issues across the EU, with a focus on energy-efficient and affordable solutions, particularly in Southern Europe. Congratulations to Dan. We look forward to continuing the dialogue on energy og climate. 💚 #EU #Sustainability #EnergyTransition #Housing #Leadership #SJ&K

📢 Ireland Electrified was officially launched on 26th April 2024 to accelerate the electrification of Ireland's heating and transport sector. The association brings together major energy players, businesses, and organisations that utilise electricity for heat and transport. Their members are advocating for policies that will cut carbon emissions and strengthen Irish energy security. Dónall O' Brien, co-founder of EM3, has been elected as the Chairperson of Ireland Electrified who mentioned, “We are excited to launch Ireland Electrified as we see it as an opportunity to bring industry together to respond to the climate emergency and to empower communities and small businesses to be leaders in our Electrification Revolution. We look forward to working with our members to build a collective voice that will support and shape Government policy on electrification and build an Ireland decarbonised, an Ireland energised, an Ireland Electrified". 🔌 By working through Ireland Electrified, members can help shape government policy on electrification and maximise the impact of our collective voice. The association aims to develop specific policies that encourage the transition away from fossil fuels for Irish industry and families. 🌍 Let's join Ireland Electrified in their mission to create a sustainable future for Ireland. #IrelandElectrified #sustainability #energytransition #energyrevolution #energyefficiency

⚡️ Your support in the Clean Energy Council (CEC) Board of Director nominations This year, 37 exceptional candidates are vying for a position on the CEC Board, and while the competition is intense, I’m inspired by the growing recognition of the CEC’s pivotal role in Australia’s energy transition. If elected, I’m committed to bringing a strategic, independent perspective to help steer the CEC through this transformative period towards a net-zero future. In today’s dynamic energy landscape, we know the challenges are many—DER/CER orchestration, energy equity, approvals, social license, grid /GPS, workforce development, diversity, politics, and more. If elected, I’ll focus on: 🔹 Navigating complexity: I’m not tied to a specific agenda. Whether it’s policy shifts, technological advances, or unforeseen disruptions, I’ll bring the skillset and agility needed to guide the CEC through this fast-evolving environment. 🔹 Industry-wide representation: I’ll ensure that the CEC speaks for the entire sector—working toward sustainable, equitable outcomes for all stakeholders. 🔹 Independent and purpose-driven leadership: I offer a truly agnostic view, with no allegiance to any one technology or sector. My commitment is to the broader goals of decarbonisation, and positive societal impact. Having spent my career in strategy and rapid-change environments, and years of experience spanning Australia’s States and Territories, I’m eager to bring my expertise to the CEC board to help drive meaningful change across the energy sector. For those eligible to vote , I’ve prepared a dossier outlining my experience, achievements, and the value I can bring to the Board. Please reach out if you'd like a copy. Thank you for your support as we work together to shape the future of Australia’s energy landscape! 🌱🔋⚡️ Voting is now open until the AGM on 26 November. 👉 Check if your company is a CEC member and eligible to vote: https://lnkd.in/dTjaKhEu 👉 More information : https://lnkd.in/dNvPycGs #AECOM #CEC
