Good point Alison! With so many wineries and brands in total ‘survival mode’, I think it’s real easy to start chasing alternative routes to a P&L. Your point about the restaurants is potentially a great key, especially if wineries had greater access to collaboration with local restaurants. With 170,000+ new brand registrations in the last year, 80,000+ of them imported product, staying in business seems to be overshadowing the focus of being a great hospitality brand. I believe in creating experiential winery events highlighting the miraculous details of wine as the key to great hospitality eventing. A little food ‘to go with it’ is an accent or enhancement to the focus, not a focus of the brand.🛟🍷 #directtoconsumer #dtc #winemakersforum #wine #winery
One thing I didn’t say… I think we (the wineries) need to stop with creating experiences that go beyond wine tastings. We started wineries to make and sell wine. We didn’t start a winery to become a restaurant & entertainment venue. Resources that most small wineries do not have nor want to mess with. A scary “keeping up with the Jones” post-pandemic wine country situation is happening. So many visitors are booking with wineries based on food programs, bands, candle making classes & etc. These guests are not walking out with wine. Honestly, if we all stuck to just providing incredible wine hospitality, our community of restaurants would be stronger too. IMHO. Thoughts?

𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐄𝐈𝐍 𝐃𝐔̈𝐒𝐒𝐄𝐋𝐃𝐎𝐑𝐅 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 In the next few days it's time for ProWein 2024; a 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 for the fair which has been the undisputed leader of international wine fairs for years and which today must redeem itself, given the under-performing 2023 edition. According to many, in fact, 𝐕𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐨 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬 could become the new main international wine fair, thus replacing ProWein in Düsseldorf. The latter would consequently return to being mainly a fair for the 𝐆𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 and would act as a privileged meeting point for numerous markets in Northern and Eastern Europe. The German fair will be held from 𝟏𝟎 𝐭𝐨 𝟏𝟐 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 and will once again see 𝐈𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐲 as the protagonist, with over 1,190 registered exhibitors, although down compared to previous editions; followed by France (743) and Germany (708). | NEWS TASTYWINES MEETINGS | " Why do I prefer the conviviality of a business convention to a major trade show? " Major international trade shows will always be must-attend events to see everyone 😍 But, seeing everyone is nice but not always very productive. 😅 The business convention is a tailor-made solution for do business 🤩. - My schedule is drawn up in advance. - I know who I'm meeting - I know their profile and volumes. - I know what the importer is looking for - I have his specifications. - I have 30 to 40 minutes face-to-face with him. Efficient timing. - I take advantage of lunches, dinners and cocktail to encourage other exchanges and introduce all importers to my wines. ✔ 70% of producers declare declare signing a deal within 3 months of their participation (we also know that some close the deal during the 3 days 😉 ). So, many participants such as CHATEAU TURCAN, #VignoblesRomain, Les Marmandais ! .... return to meet importers from other countries and/or have their new vintages tasted. Excellent and Free Course on the Wines of the Rhone Valley offered by Napa Valley Wine Academy in conjunction with Inter-Rhone. Intermediate level done in 4 parts that does nice coverage of Cotes du Rhone AOC, CDR Named Villages, the Crus of the CDR and Other AOC's of the Rhone Valley. You are awarded a Certificate upon successful pass of the final exam at three stages. Good news is that you have unlimited attempts. Lots of info is covered, so its good that they broke it down into 4 sections. Great way to learn about this important region and a fantastic review even if you think you know it. Do you know how many CDR Villages are allowed to append their names? How many Crus North and South in the CDR? The difference between Cotes du Rhone and the Rhone Valley? What types of wines are produced in each Cru or each of the Villages with DGC? If not, you will benefit from doing this course. Hop on the NVWA website https://lnkd.in/gmiG8gkV and check it out. Membership gives you access to even more study tool, video education, webinars, WSET helps and mock exams and a free Certification course of your choice for Napa Valley, Oregon, Argentina or American Wine.

Top Tips for VINEXPO PARIS - Wear comfortable shoes and a jumper. Fully Booked - My diary is now completely full for the upcoming Wine Paris tradeshow. However, our winery partners would be very happy to meet you independently.... WHY & WHY SHOULD YOU? Oakley Wine Agencies work differently to most UK agents, by working for the wineries, rather than as stock-holding distributors. Your price, is the wineries direct price, if you are looking for exclusive direct wines, these can be found in our network of 29 wineries. 15 of whom, have stands at Wine Paris. WHO? Below is a chart with all of our Iberian wineries in attendance. They have got wines from North to South and East to West. Many have multiple regions under one roof. All are #sustainable producers, many are #minimalinterventionfarmers, several #organic options and all have passed the Nick Oakley quality & personality tests. WHAT NEXT? If anything jumps out, please get in contact and I will set up a meeting with you and the winery, and follow up the week after the show. Bon voyage!
