🍷"A bottle of wine represents culture and history and language and people, and my love affair for wine has come from getting to know the story behind every wine that I taste. I think that is just magic, that's the magic of wine.” Savannah Boylan This week’s episode takes us on an even more profound journey into the wonderful world of wine in the expert hands of Savannah Boylan and Ashwin Muthiah of unPinned. In addition to speaking more about their innovative approach to wine education, they offer us some crucial notions for understanding and navigating wine culture, help us demystify the wine industry and point system, and call to our attention the thousands of indigenous varietals in the world that risk extinction because there is no demand for or knowledge about them. That’s where unPINNED comes in. Knowledge is power, and, with their wine course, they lead you on a friendly, fun and engaging discovery of wines and wine culture, giving you the tools you need to make solid, confident, and informed choices at restaurants, wine bars or stores. Their commitment to and passion for wine come through in every minute of this episode and I am delighted that Ashwin and Savannah also reflect upon their experiences going to the source in Georgia (the country, not the state) and the making of the related documentary, In Pursuit of Flavor. Finally, I ask them to share more with us about how and when their love affair with wine began and why they decided to settle down in Italy. Spoiler alert: we discover that the three of us have very different tastes in wine! 📣$15 off annual membership for 15 with Fosca Listeners with code: 15WITHFOSCA 🎧Streaming now🎤 https://lnkd.in/d2v-rWii https://lnkd.in/deSNyd3i https://lnkd.in/eERQyQpr Fosca D'Acierno, Ask Fosca, Your US Insider in Italy #wine #winetasting #wineeducator #wineeducation #italianwine #expats #expatlifestyle #expatsinitaly

Why Shiraz deserves a spot in you wine collection 🍷 Shiraz, a variety that marries quality with value, yet often escapes the love it deserves. Attending wine events and trade shows zeroed in on the wine industry is one of my favorite things. Yes… I am fully aware that this is a very odd thing and I’ve fully accepted my weirdness. Many people in the industry have told me they loathe these events, and I can understand that it’s long hours on your feet trying to talk with people in the roar of a room that is maxed out with people who are drinking. Trust me, my ears were STILL ringing a few hours after the event because of the amount of conversations that were being had with 100’s of people in one room. But for me these events excite and recharge my love of wine and this industry. Meeting people who are fans of the most beloved drink in the world always brings me back to a new perspective. Especially when you are in a completely sold out session for anyone from a wine novice to the professional. I loved talking with winemakers and asking questions only to have the person next to me ask “how did you think to even ask that question? I’m just here to drink but that’s really interesting!” Then the conversation continues and the next thing you know they are excited to meet a wine professional that does wine tasting events where the “snobbery” of wine is taken away and there are real conversations on a level that anyone can understand. That, in my personal opinion, is one way we can help change the way wine is discussed and percieved. Create conversations that are fun and fueled by curiosity where people can feel free to ask questions they may have been mocked for previously. My favorite comment of the evening was from a man who “really only drinks IPA’s” was that he was very curious to know more about wine but wondered how anyone can remember the details if you’re drinking wine while learning about it. My response was “that’s usually why people invite me back for a second event… to go over the things they forgot!” With that answer, he gave the best belly laugh and almost spit out his wine… almost 😉 What is your favorite thing about wine expo’s and trade shows? #ibringthewine #wine #winetasting #winelovers #winebusiness #wineindustry #winelover #wines #wineeducation #wineeducator #winelife #bostonwineexpo

📝 A frisky, pretty wine. Lovely fresh strawberry, red berries nose. The palate is dry with a salted fruit finish. Would work well with local specialties such as gnocco fritto. 🍷 This is the tasting note elaborated by our jury for the selected wine of Cantina VentiVenti. #5StarWines2024 #WineWithoutWalls2024 #5StarWinestheBook #ItalianWine #VinoItaliano

Sometimes in my work tasting wine, I feel like I'm Goldilocks. You remember her, right?... As a wine professional, you are taught to follow a methodology, that can be tedious, about how to evaluate a wine. But sometimes, I just like the Goldilocks approach: Taste, Think (Hmmm..), Is it "Just Right"?.. Well, there is certainly more too it! Read the nuts and bolts in this article. #winetasting #winelover #sommelier #wineeducation
You've been there: in a pinch to get a wine for a dinner or as a gift and you're not sure what to get. Sure, it needs to be a wine that is "special," that you don't find "everywhere," but also the taste needs to be "just right." How do you go about it? Read this and find out. #winelovers #wineeducation #winetasting #giftgiving https://lnkd.in/eZVsjE6n

Wine Knowledge - Wine is only one of countless areas of interest and fascination – of which many people are gloriously and unashamedly ignorant. And it is perfectly reasonable for others to dive deeply and exclusively into one or two regions or styles of wine. Or to happily learn nothing about wine at all – beyond a handful or two of names that will get them a drink they enjoy in a restaurant #wine #wines #wineeducation #winemarketing #wineknowledge #knowledge #wines #winebusiness
