Hong Kong is making an effort to tap into the Muslim market, a move to diversify its stagnant economy, but for Muslims, Halal options are limited in this so-called food paradise in Asia. Most of those that are certified, offer Indian or Middle Eastern cuisine, only a handful serve Cantonese dishes. The story idea first sparked during a chat with my Singaporean colleague last year. When asked why he wouldn't want to visit Hong Kong, his immediate response was simply "food". Then I came to realise less than 1 percent of the 18,000 dining spots in the city are halal certified today, despite the fact that Hong Kong is home to 300,000 Muslims, accounting for 4 percent of its population. However, building a Muslim-friendly destination goes beyond food, the city must factor in infrastructure. I also spoke with Ann Foo from Grand Hyatt Hong Kong on how the hotel operators can come together to further welcome this potential niche market. https://lnkd.in/gitYNsrV

More than 3,000 F&B outlets in Singapore closed in 2024, highest in nearly 20 years We've seen some legendary places close down which is a shame and sad to see! From my perspective it is the changing demographic of people moving here that are eating primarily foods from their own countries that's having a profound effect on the F&B business that no one's talking about. Singapore food scene was built on the food of the migrants that moved here and called it home and evolved as new settlers came and went. This is a new sweeping change in the F&B scene in Singapore that's causing restaurants to close and new ones open in their place. But rising costs, rentals, staff, power and food costs (all way above the proclaimed inflation rate) are the biggest contributing factors to why many businesses are failing here (many more days on the edge). Many restaurants we know and love are heading to Bali, Dubai and Malaysia from here and we wish them all the best in their new homes! There are still some winners for sure, they are small bite high turnover restaurants like those serving tapas! I just don't see how so many Korean BBQ and Chinese mala hotpot restaurants or Coffee places can survive in Singapore over the next 3 to 5 years! I guess we'll have to wait and see! The Singapore food scene is changing for sure, not all for the better from my perspective but like anywhere it continues to evolve and change!

Halal Japanese Beef Experience in Osaka!! Halal beef is very popular, even during this Ramadan period, the restaurant was super busy. It's also gaining attention as a highlight of inbound tourist tours, and it seems to be recommended by nearby hotels. I heard from the manager that once Ramadan is over coming next week, the restaurant will be fully booked with even more Muslim and International tourists. It was an eye-opening opportunity to get to know the high demand for halal beef in Japan and tourists want to bring it back to their home country. I'll bring this story back to Malaysia. (restaurant info is in a comment) #Halalbeef #Malaysia #Malaysiabusiness
