Another trip down PlateRate's memory lane - We used to charge a reinvestment fee, about 13% or so, which was 100% used to market restaurants. But restaurants still perceived that as an additional expense and felt a lot of resistance to sign up, and once they signed up they expected us to promote them. So at the suggestion of a PlateRate colleague that's a restaurant owner, I completely eliminated that fee so that we essentially PAY restaurants to take online orders, so we're by far the most profitable partner a restaurant can have. In return, the restaurants promote us. We then create more loyalty with our one time incentives for repeat business... This creates a great synergy between the restaurant (who gets more profit and loyalty), the diner (who earns more free food), and PlateRate (who gets a smaller margin than anyone else in the industry). It was a big risk to keep our margins so low, but I've always wanted to be the most generous in the industry, so we're living by that rule and hoping restaurants will come out and support us for being generous, if we do, we hope to inspire other entrepreneurs to be more generous to build positive relationships with business partners too!
