How Climate Change Impacts our Health
Glimpse Of Climate Change Impact on Human Health -) Heat-related deaths are on the rise: A 2021 study published in The Lancet Planetary #Health estimates that climate change contributed to 305,000 additional heat-related deaths globally in just 2019. This number is projected to increase significantly in the coming decades. -) Extreme weather events are taking a toll: More frequent and intense heatwaves, floods, droughts, and wildfires are displacing communities, disrupting food security, and leading to injuries, deaths, and mental health problems. The World Health Organization (#WHO) reports that between 2000 and 2019, extreme weather events caused nearly 2 million deaths and displaced 123 million people. -) Respiratory illnesses are worsening: Air pollution, exacerbated by wildfires, dust storms, and ozone formation due to rising temperatures, is a major contributor to respiratory diseases like asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (#COPD), and lung cancer. The WHO estimates that air pollution caused 4.2 million deaths globally in 2016. -) Vector-borne diseases are spreading: As temperatures rise, mosquitoes and other disease-carrying insects are expanding their range, increasing the risk of #malaria, #dengue fever, #Zika virus, and other infectious diseases. The WHO warns that climate change could lead to an additional 250,000 deaths per year from malaria, dengue fever, and #diarrhoea by 2050. #ClimateCrisis #HealthCrisis #ClimateHealth #ProtectOurHealth #ActOnClimate #ClimateActionNow #NoMoreExcuses #PublicHealthEmergency #TimeToChange #Sustainability #CorporateSocialResponsibility #HealthAndWellness #SustainableBusiness #ImpactInvesting #GlobalHealth #ClimateJustice Follow me (Harshal) for exciting #ESG and #Zerocarbon trivia.
