📢 90 years of Excellence – Project 1 : From Past to Present: Celebrating the Atomium’s Remarkable Journey! The Atomium, a modernist marvel designed by André Waterkeyn and architects André and Jean Polak, was built for the 1958 Brussels World’s Fair. Shaped like a cube on its tip, it represents an elementary iron crystal magnified 165 billion times. Over the years, the building faced significant decay. To finance its renovation, a nonprofit group, “Save the Atomium”, sold pieces of the old aluminum plates as souvenirs. The remaining funds came from the city of Brussels, the Belgian government, and private donations. From 2004 to 2006, extensive renovations were carried out, reinforcing the structure of the building and replacing its aluminum sheets with stainless steel. ⚙ SECO’s Role: ▶ The Atomium was one of the many constructions of the 1958 Brussels World's Fair inspected by SECO at the time. Since 1969, SECO has carried out annual periodic inspections. ▶ In 1997, SECO performed a detailed analysis of the Atomium's condition and carried out a feasibility study for its renovation. ▶ More recently, between 2003 and 2006, SECO was involved in the renovation works. ▶ Today, SECO is finalizing a validation of the inspection plan for future maintenance. Did you know a triangular piece of the original Atomium can be found in our offices at Onyx Diegem? We are proud of our contribution to this unique creation in the history of architecture and emblematic vestige of Expo 58. SECO supports the preservation of our rich heritage and the captivating stories they hold, as they connect us with our history and inspire future innovations. ✨ « sustainability – SECO XC 90 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE – innovation » #SECOXC #excellenceinengineering

🚀 Reflecting on Resilience and Innovation at BAU 2025 The BAU München fair has always been a highlight for the construction world. 🏗️✨ It’s where two years of preparation culminate in one week of showcasing progress, celebrating innovation, and forging connections. This year, as I reflect on the fair, the image of Notre Dame under restoration comes to mind. The crane standing beside the iconic cathedral isn’t just a symbol of rebuilding—it’s a testament to resilience, innovation, and the delicate balance of preserving tradition while embracing progress. In many ways, it mirrors the story of our industry today. At BAU 2025, I was inspired not just by the products on display but by the people behind them: 🤝 The warm reunions with former colleagues, 💬 The conversations that sparked new ideas, and 🌟 The shared commitment to shaping a stronger, more sustainable future. Even my taxi driver offered a unique perspective. 🚕 While he noticed fewer visitors this year, he reminded me of the ebb and flow of industries and the importance of staying optimistic and adaptable. 💡 My takeaway? BAU isn’t just about innovation—it’s about the people and stories driving progress, much like the ongoing work at Notre Dame. Here’s to creating a legacy of resilience, innovation, and collaboration, one project at a time. 🏛️✨ ➡️ What inspired you most at BAU 2025? Let’s connect and share ideas! #ConstructionInnovation #Bau2025 #ResilienceAndInnovation #NotreDameRestoration #BuildingTheFuture #ArchitecturalTrends #SustainableBuilding #NetworkingMatters Photo credit: Beatrix Koch

I would like to share a few insights into one of our ongoing projects at Institut für Hochbau, Holzbau und kreislaufgerechtes Bauen (IHB), BOKU University , presented by the head of our institute Benjamin Kromoser on YouTube by "DIE FESTMACHER" (by fischer group). Discover how theory can be translated into practice, contributing to environmental protection. The project demonstrates that smart construction processes, the use of available resources and the use of sustainable materials can effectively reduce ecological footprints. 🎥 Watch the full video to learn more about our research!
