Circuit Breaker. A circuit breaker is defined as a switching device that can be operated manually or automatically for controlling and protecting an electrical power system. It consists of two main contacts Fixed contact. Moving contact. The contacts are normally closed and allow current to flow through the circuit. The Air Circuit Breaker (ACB) is an electrical device used to provide overcurrent and short-circuit protection for electric circuits over 800 Amps to 10K Amps. These are usually used in low voltage applications below 450V. We usually see them in Main Distribution Boards (MDBs) as the incoming breaker. The ACB is designed to act as the primary point of isolation and as a protection in the event of a fault or over current occurring on the system, thereby safeguarding the system up-line.
