Every child is not lucky to have their parent present most of the time in the first five years. Every parent is not lucky to have the luxury to spend quality time with their children during early childhood. This can be due to many factors like family situations, financial situations, decisions, etc. Can we call this #childhoodinequity? Spending quality time with parents is very good for development in children, especially in the first five years but it is also true throughout the child’s life. Spending quality time with their children is good for parents as well, for their mental health. Not every child is lucky enough to have a great childhood home filled with love and peace 🕊️, good friends and good family and good connections, parent(s) who can afford to spend quality time with their children. Every single things helps. Having a sibling helps. Having good people around helps. Giving the time and space that is needed for the mother to spend quality time with their child is very very essential. Taking care of the mom helps the child. But this is not true in most cases. When I was a child my mom didn’t have the luxury to spend quality time with me. And during the early years of my child, I didn’t have the luxury to spend quality time with my child. Both myself and my child didn’t have a very happy, peaceful, loving childhood home. But both myself and my mom tried our best to support our child(ren). But parental love, support and bonding helps a whole lot to both the parent and the child at ANY AGE. (Even in their 50s) Society, schools should help with social and parental engagements which helps a lot in development of human beings in many aspects.

I have found that working with young people who are experiencing social and emotional challenges requires both a nuanced and compassionate, that takes into consideration the unique needs of the individual. For this reason, my method involves a collaborative effort with the child, their parents, as well as recommendations for their school environment, to create a holistic support system. In a nutshell, my step-by-step to supporting children facing emotional challenges looks a bit like this... 1. First, I look to identify and understand the specific emotional challenges the young person is facing. 2. Based on our discussions and observations, I like to work closely with parents or carers to develop an individualised support plan tailored to the young person's needs. 3. Thirdly, because I believe that support at school is just as vital as support at home. I always provide recommendations for the child’s school to ensure they are aligned with the action plan. 📣Everyone Some exciting news! ⚡Ok ready? Here we go! More than ever before, families are desperately searching for neuro-affirming support. Parents want help from professionals they can trust to meet the needs and goals of their family in a way that is respectful to everyone’s neurotype. 👯♀️Who we are and what we want to do: Helen Poulos is the founder of ASK Counselling & I'm Diana Silva the founder of Keywell. We are both influential professionals and advocates for neurodiversity, dedicated to paving the way for neuro-affirming practice, education and parenting. Through a shared passion for helping others, we've joined forces and designed an innovative way to provide your family with support, by sharing our professional and lived experience & knowledge in an accessible and practical way. 💡How will we do this? We will be reading the questions you post onA private group where you can share ideas and support other parents where we will host regular Facebook Live sessions where we answer some of your questions on our private Facebook group - it will be available exclusively to members of this group - that's you! We host regular Facebook LIVES where you can hear the answers to your queries from our professional and lived experience. We'll also invite other medical and allied health professionals with expertise in different areas who can contribute to these sessions. How cool is that? ❓When will this happen? We'll post a monthly thread where you can add your queries and Helen and I will pick a few from the list to address in our next session. You can ask questions about your child, parenting, your own mental health, anything at all. No question is silly, no question is too small. And you can do it anonymously if you prefer. 🌼More about us I founded Keywell after finding myself completely overwhelmed because I couldn't help my child who was clearly struggling (sound familiar?). I was struggling too, and unsurprisingly I received my ADHD diagnosis a year after my child received theirs. The Keywell app was the first product I created in my quest for understanding, and to open up a deeper connection between parent and child. I'm an advocate, digital creator and author in the making! The Keywell website is a growing hub of articles and resources for families and teachers. I spend my days reading research papers so I can distill the information hidden behind scientific jargon into easy to understand content. www.keywell.com.au 🌸Meet Helen I'm Helen Poulos, and after over a decade of teaching in primary school classrooms, chronic overwhelm & fierce advocacy for the neurodivergent communtiy, I received an ADHD diagnosis in 2021 and began to truly thrive & meet my potential. Through ASK Counselling, I've been able to provide neuro-affirming counselling for parents, which is 100% claimable through NDIS, and in 2024 ASK will be a REGISTERED NDIS PROVIDER! Yay! I'm also the ONLY Licensed COTHU trainer in Australia!

What might you add? Agree? Disagree? A shallow dive into residential #therapeutic programs for #teens in need of #behavior #modification led down a rabbit hole. Here are some #takeaways from reading around an informative webpage and listening to their podcast series: Disorders can appear with partners. Where there is one disorder, it is possible to have more than one. For example: anxiety and dyslexia may present together in an individual. Treating behavior disorders in teens includes #healing the family unit. Medication and treatment programs will not solve the problem. Healing the family includes examining and taking steps to improve upon each member's #contributions to the collective problem. Examining #triggers like family traditions, social tendencies, and cultural expectations is part of the solution. For the teen, being at a residential program can be an "...opportunity to escape from unhealthy influences and negative triggers" and a break for parents who are exhausted from trying to manage someone they cannot, despite their best efforts. Where there are two (or more) types of #parenting styles, this is problematic. One parent may be authoritative, causing the other parent to overcompensate and have a permissive style. A commitment to improving each parent's approach is part of the solution and betters the likelihood of the teen continuing their positive behavior and lifestyle once they leave treatment. Short-term programs may not have lasting results. At least a 3-month stay starts to show the teen the benefits and signs of improvement. A #testimonial from one teen who started and left a program stated it took 5 months to feel the difference and they successfully left the program at 11 months. This is a time for the teen to work on themselves, develop new and healthy habits, build up their self-esteem, and rebuild their grades in school. Selecting the right program can be an extensive search to find a good fit. Terms like troubled teens include a wide range and depth of behavioral needs. Employees or residential therapeutic programs engage in empathy training and contribute connections with teens as a large contributor to success. Variables such as the frequency and nature of interactions with family while in residence are one consideration, cost is certainly another. https://lnkd.in/ehpM8xHf

Making somatic intelligence the superpower of leaders & founders who want to lead with authenticity ✨️ | Embodied Leadership Coach, Facilitator, Speaker | Mama to 2 🧠♾️
𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝘆 & 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗗𝗘𝗜) 𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 ⤵️ Building a culture of understanding & acceptance about Neurodiversity ♾️ Research shows that 15 - 20% of the world population are neurodivergent. Neurodivergence is a difference in how the brain works, where the person has different strengths and struggles from those whose brains develop or work more typically. This includes ADHD, Autism Spectrum, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia, Sensory Processing Disorder. Many working parents with neurodivergent children are also juggling their work commitments & navigating the challenges of raising neurodivergent children at the same time - which may include finding time to bring them for therapy and advocating for their child's needs in schools. Some of them may be also neurodivergent themselves - which was something they may not realised until their child was diagnosed (hello, that's me 🖐) As a parent to a neurodivergent child (Aspergers/Autism Spectrum), one of my goals this year is to speak and share more about parenting neurodivergent child - both as a parent & a trauma-informed parenting coach to parents who have neurodivergent children. Hence, I was delighted to be invited by Wanda Wijaya to speak at at Ohana Therapy's first parent engagement event for their clients, where I shared on the topic - Navigating Challenges while Parenting Neurodivergent Children. Here's what the participants shared after attending my talk: ✅️ "𝘐 𝘧𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘞𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘰𝘸 𝘰𝘧 𝘛𝘰𝘭𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘪𝘯 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘺 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴." ✅️ "𝘐 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘭𝘺 𝘦𝘯𝘫𝘰𝘺𝘦𝘥 𝘈𝘷𝘢'𝘴 𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘬. Thank you to the team at Ohana Therapy for having me and doing an amazing job in organising this event! I'd love to share more about how organisations can start to build a culture of understanding & acceptance about neurodiversity, and speak to interest/support groups for working parents on parenting neurodivergent children. If you're interested in organising a talk or workshop in your organisation about these topics, let's connect and have a chat! . . . #DiversityEquityandInclusion #DEI #Neurodiversity #parenthood #earlychildhood #childdevelopment #creativekids #sgparenting #sgeducation #inclusion #childdevelopment #workingparents #traumainformedparenting #neuroscience

It’s important to recognize the significance of children’s emotions in their overall development. While we often hear comments like, “They’re young; they’ll bounce back,” it’s crucial to remember that even young children experience profound emotions. Loss and grief can impact individuals at any age, and providing emotional support is essential. Support can take many forms, including counseling, EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), play therapy, or hypnotherapy. Additionally, community groups can offer valuable social support. What services do you recommend for fostering emotional and social well-being in children? #EmotionalWellbeing #ChildDevelopment #MentalHealthMatters #SupportOurKids #Parenting #EmbraceFeelings #Resilience #GrowthMindset #KidsEmotions #HolisticHealth #HolisticKids #ChildCounseling #HolisticPractitioner #CommunitySupport

In order to become parents, I really wish there was a mandatory parenting course for adults. I saw a video today that explained the basic concept of Serve and Return. Something that most of us can relate to is this: as a child, when you asked your parents or teacher a question, or if you expressed frustration or excitement, and in return, you were ignored, not given validation, or even scolded for asking “stupid” things, that’s where you might have felt emotional distress and a lack of trust. These experiences are not at all small; they will affect you as a grown-up. You might feel embarrassed about asking questions, or you may never feel comfortable expressing your emotions. Raising an individual is a huge responsibility, and not everyone is capable of that. It’s much more than giving birth and providing a child with a stable future. Most parents don’t realize how crucial the emotional stability of a child is from the very moment of birth. In simple words, Serve and Return is the back-and-forth interaction between a child and an adult. For example, imagine throwing a ball and having no one to catch it on the other side. How will it make you feel? Will you keep throwing the ball? These back-and-forth exchanges, where a child gestures, babbles, or seeks attention (serves), and the parent responds by engaging (returns), are essential for the child’s cognitive, social, and emotional growth. #parenting #serveandreturn #earlychildhoodeducation #childdevelopment #childpsychology #teaching #cognitivedevelopment https://lnkd.in/eSHVYywq
