Our Visitor Services team members are often the first faces guests see when they visit Winterthur. They are a wealth of information about what is going on around the estate and love connecting our guests to programming that will resonate with them. We are hiring Museum Greeters as we ramp up to celebrating spring! For more information, or to apply, click here: https://lnkd.in/eYaUhHX2

Museums Association recently announced their next conference will be hosted at St Fagans National Museum of History, Cardiff (Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales) next October. The 100-acre site sits within the grounds of a castle and consists of over 40 historic buildings. From 2013-2018, we worked alongside the team at St Fagans to design three of their new exhibition spaces. This project was part of a £30 million redevelopment project, the biggest transformation for St Fagans since it was founded in 1948. "What makes working on the projects that go onto win major prizes like the Art Fund Prize so special is the vision and innovation that characterises the clients and the ability of the architects and the exhibition designers to rise to those aspirations and deliver inspirational visitor experiences. St Fagan's won the Art Fund prize in 2019 for standing as "a monument to modern museum democracy. All three galleries required a sense of informality and welcome which drove the aesthetic of the displays, the nature of the layouts and in particular the tone and style of the graphics. Each gallery had to be designed with the capacity to constantly evolve and incorporate ongoing contributions. Combining collections display with visitor activity, rather than separating the two as many museums do, requires careful consideration and planning. As a designer, you have to get under the skin of what that means." Esther Dugdale. Esther is a Creative Director and Expert Advisor who works alongside us. The Museum of London Museum closed as a visitor attraction in December 2022 in preparation for its relocation to Smithfield General Market. The "old" site at London Wall, Bastion House is under threat of demolition. Bastion House has been called ‘A rare survivor of a hugely important part of the City of London’s post-war planning history’ @C20society names Museum of London/Bastion House on their annual #RiskList– a selection of c20 buildings facing demolition or disfigurement. As a cultural historian and a Freeman of the City of London and a Liveryman of a Livery Company , I urge you to object to this scheme. The new proposed development will merely provide more office space. This seems crazy to me when many people are working from home a number of days a week. We need to inject new life into London and a destination City, we need to give people cultural destinations to visit! The Square Mile should be a vibrant destination of choice for everyone. We must seize this once-in-a-generation opportunity to redefine the City of London and enhance its leisure offer. This will boost our attractiveness to existing audiences while also opening it up to new ones, just as the Elizabeth line is set to connect more people to the City directly than ever before. CATHERINE CROFT | DIRECTOR OF 20TH CENTURY SOCIETY “Once demolished there is no turning back, a unique creation is lost for ever. Whilst some of these buildings (on C20 Risk List) may need imaginative renewal, all are capable of inspiring and energising new uses. We need to make sure that none of these opportunities are missed. All ten of the 2023 buildings deserve to survive to make our lives richer and more interesting, the positive benefits of keeping them are immeasurable.” #BarbicanActionQuarter joins with #20thCenturySociety in calling on the City of London to retain, refurbish and adapt the site. Object to the proposals for the demolition of the Museum of London and Bastion House via the link: https://lnkd.in/g6jghWVw.

Currently on view at Sexauer Showroom at Grolmanstr. 53, 10623 Berlin-Charlottenburg Interactions 9 - Marlene Bart / Alexander Iskin The installation „Ordnungswut“ by Marlene Bart presents a tower of vitrines filled with sculptures reminiscent of the contents of natural history collections. Bart eschews a conventional, systematic ordering system and instead scrutinises the structures of our established knowledge culture. Ordering systems are man-made. They shape the way we think, feel, and act. „Ordnungswut“ is reminiscent of the biblical tale of the Tower of Babel. It symbolises the impossibility of attaining ultimate knowledge. Jorge Luis Borges once described an infinite library, filled with all possible combinations of letters, including incomprehensible texts. This too stands as a similar metaphor for the futility of finding a universal order. Bart aligns herself with Donna Haraway’s concept of „Tentacular Thinking“. A non-linear, non-hierarchical mode of thinking. „Ordnungswut“ is an attempt to gain an understanding that responds to the challenges of a networked world in a more balanced and more sustainable way. The installation „Ordnungswut“ is juxtaposed with drawings by Alexander Iskin, situated in the room on the right. Iskin also refers to the concept of the tower construction. While Bart is more concerned with analysing our knowledge systems, Iskin focuses on new technologies. Depending on how these are used, they could lead us to heaven. Or to hell. Visitor information: Currently no fixed opening hours. However, the exhibitions can be seen day and night from the sidewalk. You are also welcome to make an appointment with us (mail@sexauer.eu).

In the latest issue of PIN-UP magazine, Mariam Issoufou (chair for architecture heritage and sustainability at ETH Zürich) and Adam Caruso (chair for architecture and construction at ETH Zürich) discuss museums. They unravel the tangle of capitalistic, colonial implications embedded in many museums’ DNA, question such institutions’ accumulative acquisition policies, and more: https://lnkd.in/dBeam-yp
