It's 2024. Hard to understand why this would keep happening. I just typo'd in Google's search engine the term "Amazzon." And the *first and only* sponsored link is to a tech support scam. Note Google even claims to be fixing my typo and showing me the correct results -- which it does, in the free section. But first, it shows a sponsored link to a scam. Presumably, Google collects a click payment for sending people to this scam. I do understand the challenge of an ever-changing cat-and-mouse game with criminals. I don't understand how simple attacks like typosquatting still work against Big Tech. I first wrote about this kind of attack right after Y2K! (see link in comment()

I won't declare I know ground truth here, but as a #privacy advocate and with a class action looming for Calendly's alleged use of third party keyloggers against unsuspecting users, I pulled the plug on my accounts. Unfortunately, the excerpt below applies to a variety of critical bills in state legislatures. It takes relatively little money (even though we’re still talking millions) for corporate interests to buy influence and power at the state level. People generally don’t seem to realize how critical state level politics are, which makes it easy for interests to fly under the radar. The thing that got me on our privacy bill is that multinational corporate interests had sooo many resources to work with. But resources for “the people”? Not so much. I have nothing against people doing their job - and I’m impressed watching certain folks who are VERY good at it. For someone who is competitive, it makes the game extremely interesting, but the rules of the game also feel so completely unbalanced in a way that makes me sad for Vermonters - and Americans in general. This confirms we received the request. We review the request. We evaluate each request based on factors including the criteria above. We also evaluate the content for public interest. We gather more info, if needed. If the request doesn’t have enough information for us to evaluate, like if URLs are missing, we’ll share specific instructions and ask you to resubmit the request.
