A: Open field Within 2.5 hours, the customer had close to 100% response rate, luckily her teams are physically safe at this time, although many are without power or stuck in place, and several have had severe damage to their homes. Here are some comments from that form: "Thank you for the text!!!" "Is there anything I can do to help anyone? “Other than no power my family is safe." "Great job!" "This is a great feature of team sense." It's more than a call off line, it's a digital connection. ⚡Houston’s CenterPoint Energy in the Spotlight (that doesn’t turn on) As many of you are likely aware, Hurricane Beryl has created a tragic situation in Houston with fatalities, injuries, power outages, and extreme heat. As a crisis communicator, I notice several key aspects in these events. ➡️ Power Restoration: Initially, over 2 million were without power, now reduced to about 1 million. However, public response is negative due to unmet promises regarding updates. ➡️ Communication Issues: Promised ETAs on power restoration were not delivered timely, impacting trust. ➡️ Perception Problem: Mayor John Whitmire criticized CenterPoint for prioritizing the Astros’ fully lit stadium over residents’ power needs. CenterPoint’s increased social media activity is mostly self-promotional, highlighting the need for transparent and reliable communication during crises. This situation serves as a case study on improving crisis communication strategies. 🌧️ #TropicalStormDebby, which started as a category 1 hurricane, is gaining momentum as it travels up the East Coast. OptiRTC’s CMAC in Aiken, SC created an additional 3 acre-feet of storage in advance of the storm and optimized water levels between two underground detention vaults. This proactive management allowed Opti to increase storage capacity and effectively mitigate flooding in the downstream Hitchcock Woods, enhancing community resilience. Terrible news about #Jasper. I was last there in 2008. I know they were doing work to create a firebreak outside of town as well as thinning to create opportunities to get the fire to drop to the ground, which creates more opportunities to manage the fire, if you have one. But there is very little you can do with a running crown #fire, when it is windy and hot, especially in a lodgepole and spruce dominated forest, which is evolved to burn catastrophically. It will be interesting to see if these preparations made a difference. Terrible loss nonetheless. #Wildfires are one of the few natural disasters where we expect human intervention to make a difference. For instance we don’t expect people to “manage” a hurricane, tornado or earthquake, but we have an expectation that wildfires are manageable. This is increasingly unrealistic in the face of the extremity and severity of wildfire conditions. International Association of Wildland Fire 🔥 🇨🇦
