Friends in our Coffee Community, you are invited to a Listening Session on the Coffee Campus next Tuesday, January 21. You can attend either the 9:00 a.m. session or the 5:00 p.m. session in the Planning Room. The purpose of the listening sessions is to receive feedback and input from the communities the college serves. This is part of the strategic planning process and aims to engage local stakeholders, businesses, and community members in shaping the future of the college and its role in the community. The college is looking for feedback on programs offered and ensuring the skills and qualifications meet the needs of the business. The sessions will cover various topics to enhance partnerships, workforce development, and community engagement. Are there any specific skills or training you feel is lacking in the local workforce that you feel the college could address? These questions and more will allow the college to gain valuable feedback as we set the college’s priorities for the next several years. If you can attend either one of the sessions RSVP by using this link address. https://lnkd.in/epN75eub #StrategicPlanning #WiregrassCommunities #CoffeeCampus

Really appreciate many of the points raised by Laura Kuizin, Ed.D. in her recent piece for Inside Higher Ed. Particularly her reflection, "I was surprised to discover how many students are unaware of or undervalue their existing skills." At Talent - Workforce Transformation we find that to be true right across the workforce, no matter the age or stage of the individual in their career. Another reason why #skillsintelligence matters! #workforcetransformation

It was great to join with higher education colleagues on The The Chronicle of Higher Education's webinar on "The Upside of Upskilling." The conversation around #upskilling is growing louder because it is a direct way to address workforce shortages and high-demand jobs. The webinar showcased the wide swath of approaches to helping students and working adults earn certificates and degrees needed to launch a career or advance within their organizations. The bottom line: It's all on the upside! You can listen to the discussion at the link in the first comment. My thanks to Alexander Kafka at the Chronicle and to the other panelists for a great conversation: Carissa Little from Stanford; Nilajah Nyasuma Sims, Ed.D. from Morgan State University; Kristin Sowden, Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania; and Murtis Worth from Fayetteville Technical Community College.

Reflections on Building a College Culture: The Ripple Effect! Over the past year, we’ve been focused on nurturing a strong, inclusive culture at West Lancashire College, and the impact has been truly transformative. ✅ Learner Numbers: A positive, supportive environment naturally attracts more learners. Our focus on collaboration, real-world experiences, and holistic growth has not only enhanced student satisfaction but has also led to increased enrolment. Our students are now our greatest advocates, sharing their experiences far and wide supported through our Ambassador programme with Dawn Hughes. ✅ Staff Morale: Creating a culture that celebrates achievements, fosters continuous professional development, and encourages open dialogue has seen a marked improvement in staff morale. When staff feel valued and supported, they bring their best to the classroom – which in turn benefits our learners. This is evident in the work done through our well being team led by Neil Farrell. Both our teaching staff and support teams work tirelessly to provide the best for our learners, and their passion is reflected in everything they do. ✅ Collaboration: Strengthening partnerships within the college and across the wider community has created a dynamic learning experience. Our collaborations with local businesses, community leaders, and alumni have provided students with enriched opportunities while keeping our staff connected to a larger purpose. there have been amazing links forged by Wendy Bennett, Lynsey Makin. Amanda Maddocks, Tony Robinson, Lisa Hoseason and Alex Huskisson. Building a thriving culture isn’t just about policies; it’s about people. When we invest in our college community, the results speak for themselves. ✅ Marketing’s Role: Effective marketing isn’t just about promotion—it’s about telling a story that resonates. By showcasing our college’s culture and values through social media, online content, and community events, we’ve created a buzz that consistently brings learners, staff, and partners together. It’s the engine that keeps our growth on track. Jane Hines has this off to a tee for our college, and is supported through her team including Emma Louise Dagnall, Vicky Heyes, Lauren Kelly and Mark Parkinson. When we combine a thriving internal culture with strategic marketing, we create a lasting impact on the entire college community. Here’s to continued growth and success for all! 🙌🎓 PS. What are your thoughts on culture and it's impact? #Education #CollegeCulture #LearnerSuccess #StaffDevelopment #Collaboration #Leadership #GrowthMindset #WestLancsCollege

Building bridges between business & education is key to a stronger future workforce. Great insights from St Benedict’s students! 🚀 Read more: https://lnkd.in/eiDAMaXp
Founder & CEO of Powering Futures | Preparing the workforce of the future for the jobs of the future
Strengthening the bridge between business and education is essential to increasing the talent pool of the future - a talent pool which businesses continually tell us is receding. Supporting the next generation who are about to take their first steps beyond the school gates is more than providing them with information and signposting. It is understanding them more, engaging early and helping them better appreciate the opportunities and pathways that are out there - and that align to their attributes. The base skills of team building, collaboration, problem solving all contribute to providing the next generation with confidence to be in the workplace and to thrive. Helping them realise their own strengths and talents will lead them to careers which suit - better for the employer and for the individual. The Herald have been working with teams from St Benedict's High School who are completing a qualification in Powering Futures, following their progress and their story. The teaching methodology is different, not exam based but experiential hence accessible to all. If you want to learn more about the thoughts and insights of the emerging workforce this is worth a read and also watch their video: https://lnkd.in/eiDAMaXp With over 100 schools involved we are seeing real trends which we are sharing with our partners - translating where we can for the this future workforce.
