This blog highlights some great recommendations for how local governments, law enforcement, and communities can prepare for the possibility of mass shootings. I wish this kind if thing wasn't important, but it is. 🙏 -- "On January 18, 2024, the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) released the highly anticipated report of its critical incident review of the May 24, 2022, mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. The shooting claimed the lives of 19 fourth grade students and two of their teachers, physically injured 17 students and educators, and left countless others in the school and throughout the community dealing with unimaginable shock and trauma. The response to the shooting by authorities, primarily by law enforcement, was described by some as a “catastrophic failure,” prompting Uvalde’s mayor to request an independent review be conducted by the DOJ. While the report delves into this failure in painstaking detail, it also contains hundreds of observations and recommendations that can help communities, including schools and first responder agencies, avoid these same failures if faced with a similar situation. This blog summarizes 10 key takeaways focused on those recommendations." https://lnkd.in/eMhEeu7Z

Safety Manager at SafetyPoint. I stop idiots idioting and make sure everyone goes home safely to their families each day, and no one goes to jail.
Today we celebrate the have-a-go heroes. The backbone of our great country. The ones who failed gloriously but failed trying. The ones who refuse to pay: “How bloody much?” for a safety station. The half-finished kit car makers. The sloping patio layers. The measure once, cut three timers. The corner cutters. Who’ll build their safety station from anything they can find. Whose favourite phrase is “That’ll do”. Whose Patron Saint is Eddie the Eagle. The missing notices brigade. The botchers. The misplaced optimists. Whose last words as the ambulance drives off are: “Of course we followed the rules. Didn’t we?” As they look round at their ramshackle safety station. With no first aid kit. And an incomplete notice board. Some people look at them and see a disaster waiting to happen. But we see someone who needs help. Because those people who think: ”How hard can it be” always find out. And wish they’d paid “How bloody much?” for a safety station. The optimists who wing it, always need an expert in the end. Either a proper safety station or a lawyer. So have-a-go-heroes everywhere, the team at SAFETYpoint salutes you.
