Four steps can be your pathway to becoming a registered optometrist in Australia. The most important step is the OCANZ COE exam, which tests your competence and analyses whether you are eligible to work in Australia or not.

We’re genuinely seeing gradual progress in terms of objective testing in the rehab space with the popularization of the Tindeq (which from what I’ve heard first became popularized after an attendee mentioned it at a continuing education course a few years ago). Crane scales are an even less expensive pull measurement option that are being utilized but unfortunately lack the immediate visual feedback of the Tindeq. Ultimately I think it’s clear we need to head to a directions where both push and pull force measurement is being performed in MSK rehab space (of course with some selectivity as I think overreliance on anything is not ever a good thing). A lot of this progres has to do with the people who graduated since 2019 pushing for it (often even buying equipment themselves instead of their employers) as they have more enthusiasm about these things relative to much more experienced clinicians who simply were never exposed to force testing and don’t have the time and energy to expose themselves to such things.
