Hi all!
It's time to start sharing what I have been working on for the past 9 months with Cope Health Solutions. It's a dream come true position, where I got to use my experience as a physician in quality improvement and education in System Design and Development to create a product for physicians to easily visualize our quality metrics, population, and how we perform compared to our peers.
So far, we've had 2 Chief Medical Directors look at our products and give great reviews. They would love to use our products as a tool to communicate with their providers. It's the best month of my life to finally see some tangible success after 4+ years in the US. This success has its origins back in August 2011, where I attended a lecture by Dr. Hans Rosling at the International Federation of Medical Associations in Denmark. I was so fascinated by his engaging lecture that it helped me understand the core movement of public health from the past to the current to the future as a medical student.
Since arriving in the US, I've had the opportunity to use the Gapminder R library (by Dr. Hans Rosling's team) to visualize Covid vaccination, hospitalization, and infection rates back in 2020, supporting the MA effort to fight against COVID. Now, I no longer code it myself, but work with a team of more than 10 engineers and designers to bring complex healthcare management data to visualize in a bubble chart. Here, we can show more than 4 dimensions of data at the same time in one chart, where exploration is very easy and engaging.
I want to thank Cope Health Solutions and Allen Miller for this great opportunity, all the SMEs Carlene Zincke, Jerry Frank, M.D., Evan King who gave us great suggestions and directions, Timothy Hudgins and Taylor Van Heest who are the main brains behind this tool, Gildas CheungAnand Kishore and Victoria Mason for their great product support, and the rest of Engineering team who bring this tool to life. This is just the first post, and I hope to continue sharing about the process and product in the following posts. Please let me know if there is any specific angle you would like me to write about.
Lastly, if you have never seen Dr. Hans Rosling's lecture, I highly recommend watching it here. Despite his passing in 2017, I believe his work will continue to be developed and utilized for many more decades to come. Thank you so much, Dr. Hans Rosling; you truly made a difference in my life as a medical student with just one talk.
