Originating from "USA Weekend" magazine in 1992, this impactful initiative has sparked more than 30 million volunteer hours across 30 countries. It continues to empower individuals to take small but meaningful actions that ripple into greater societal change. In February 2023, we teamed up with Burlington Stores for a special purpose. Here's how.. SEE → ACT → IMPACT SEE the chance to help. Burlington Stores had extra office supplies and sanitizer. They didn't need it, but others did. ACT to make a change. We used our beneficial reuse program. We picked up the items and delivered them to schools and shelters. It was quick and efficient. IMPACT lives with simple actions. Burlington cleared their space, and the community received much-needed supplies. Nothing went to waste. At Happen Ventures, we love helping businesses & communities. Working with Burlington Stores showed how we can all do good together. Be helpful. Make a difference. This is me brushing leaves off paths for parkrun at 8am last Sunday 😮 Flashback a few years, I’d probably be brushing crisps out of my bed with a hangover at that time of day… How life changes. Anyway - I’m proud to be part of a team of locals that recently launched Junior Parkrun, a free weekly running event for young people. You’ve probably heard of ParkRun - if not, google it. It’s apparently the most successful UK public health initiative ever, with zero government support. (no surprises there). I love volunteering here for a few reasons: 🏃🏾Being self-employed gets lonely - I crave more human interaction!  🏃🏾Makes my kids proud / offers reasons to get them up early 🏃🏾Wearing a hi-vis jacket makes me feel important 😄 Volunteering here and elsewhere has surprised me in a few ways: ✌️It's super low pressure networking (I’ve found paid work through it) ✌️Satisfaction that’s hard to find in paid work ✌️Leads to unexpectedly interesting links and opportunities Have you tried volunteering? What will you be doing at 8am this Sunday? I've spent the last 3 weeks #volunteering, working in areas that have nothing to do with my professional life, in a country that is currently at war. I worked in #agriculture and #logistics, donated blood, served food for soldiers, publicly protested against a biased and unresponsive international organization and met incredible people of all ages and origins who, just like me, had left jobs and families to be part of a collective show of love and support for a people and a country. I've always done tons of #volunteering back home and get a great sense of fulfilment from it. In fact I always say to my clients that volunteering day/initiatives/projects can be a fantastic way to increase #employeengagement. But here is a plot twist: this trip kind of changed my views of things and not because it wasn't great. On the contrary, the whole experience was very emotional and incredibly meaningful because every single bone in my body had begged me to go and being there was really special. This trip change my mind about #employee #volunteering because I saw firsthand that to be truly meaningful, engaging and perhaps even life changing it should be a personal journey and not a #brandbuilding exercise. The more connected to the cause we are the more impactful the experience will be, there is no doubt about that. Maybe building a brand should be part of it, but not necessarily the ultimate aim. Perhaps it is more important for companies to make space for their employees to fulfill their very own individual volunteering journeys. So next time you think about including #volunteering as part of your mark/comms plan you might want to consider asking your #employees which causes they feel strongly about and would like to give their time and energy to, instead of just drawing a new project in the #meetingroom and implementing it #toptobottom. #amisraelchai
