Exciting updates on the Obama Presidential Center!

In 2018, we started producing Community Profiles for all 171 school districts in Kentucky. The objective was, and still is, to get key data into the hands of community members as a way to encourage them to be part of the solution to improving education outcomes. With data, communities could be part of designing solutions to the unique needs of families and students locally. This week we released the 4th edition - now called Groundswell Community Profiles. They include data along the "path to a larger life", coupled with trend data and a snapshot of demographic differences, and socioeconomic information to contextualize the environment. It's a brief 4-page snapshot. The Groundswell Community Profiles are meant to be used as a starting point to spur larger conversations and action. When we bring communities to the table, in hyper-local settings, with shared aspirations, innovative solutions will be found. It’s almost time for back to school! Here are a few reasons why the school district matters when house hunting: 🍎Quality Education: A good school district ensures access to quality education, providing your children with excellent learning opportunities, dedicated teachers, and well-rounded academic programs. 🍎Resale Value: Homes located in desirable school districts tend to have higher resale values. Investing in a property within a sought-after school district can offer long-term financial benefits and potential returns on your investment. 🍎Community Engagement: School districts often serve as community hubs, fostering a sense of belonging and encouraging community engagement. Living in a vibrant school district can provide opportunities for involvement in extracurricular activities, parent-teacher associations, and neighborhood events. Even if you don’t have school-aged children, looking at the school districts when house hunting isn’t a bad idea!

Back in 2018, I first started to think about how we could get textbooks sitting unused in a class cupboard in London shared with a cash-strapped school in Yorkshire. After five years of hard graft, School Resources Exchange properly got going last year. While it has been challenging to say the least, it's also pretty amazing to be starting 2024 with a live service that is already being used by and helping hundreds of schools. The focus for this year is simple - help more schools. What we're doing is a no-brainer. It's a free service which can benefit every single school in the UK. The impact of sharing surplus items between schools is a genuine game-changer on so many levels.
