Autonomous flight is one of the most promising and exciting fields in aviation, as it offers the potential to improve safety, efficiency, and connectivity. One of the key drivers of autonomous flight is the development of compact and adaptable fly-by-wire systems, which allow for more precise and reliable control of aircraft. Fly-by-wire systems replace mechanical linkages with electronic signals, enabling more automation and integration of various systems. Honeywell is one of the leading providers of fly-by-wire systems, and its Anthem platform is designed to be flexible and customizable for different types of aircraft, from general aviation to advanced air mobility (AAM). Anthem also aims to enhance pilot interaction with the aircraft, using voice control, touchscreens, and smart features. These advancements and industry efforts signal a future where autonomous flight is not just a possibility but a reality.

This is great and the tech build here is awesome! However, I feel flying cars are not very practical. Handling air traffic for planes is difficult: 27.8 million flights took off in 2022 and 39 total aviation accidents occurred causing 358 casualties. There are 1.4 BILLION cars in the world, just try and fathom flying cars being an alternative to regular cars. The sky would be in havoc. The only way I see how flying car would work is in form of public transport that is more private and best opted for close range than airplanes.

Would you trust an autonomous car? What about an autonomous aircraft? As companies are striving towards a new “future of flight”, plans for greener, faster, and possibly even autonomous aircraft are being discussed. Though this is in the extremely distant future for commercial flights, the possibility of autonomous flight for cargo aircraft is being explored. In the near future small capacity (1-10 person) autonomous aircraft will be produced, with many companies currently developing and testing prototypes. Whatever the future of aviation is, we’ll be there. Would you get in a plane with no pilot? Let us know below. #flight #autonomous #autonomy #autonomousflight #plane #avgeek
