What a great week down at Farnborough International Airshow #FIA24 Whilst overall, aircraft orders and attendance are down, diversity (of product, and indeed people) is significantly higher. The show, and indeed wider industry are still recovering from the pandamic, but along with this comes a lot of positive change. Over the decade+ that we have been attending, the change is significant, and whilst the flying displays are certainly not what they were (and the lack of cold war jets upsets Apera-bot) the focus on the future more than makes up for this. Alongside this, ‘24s show was the first ever to allow public access to exhibition halls, helping inspire the next generation of engineers, pilots and innovators. There was a greater sense of ‘connection’ to the wider world, and we only see this as a good thing. There is a brave new world slowly commercialising, we can’t wait to see what the next decade will hold. #UnlockingHumanPotential

Did anybody manage to get over to Southport for the airshow this weekend? Anybody going to Farnborough? What about RIAT? Our CEO Jerrod Hartley has featured in the Aerospace Magazine Farnborough Edition, and it's well worth a read if you have a bit of time, and although he won't be in personal attendance at Farnborough, he will be down in Fairford for the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT 2024) at the end of the week. https://lnkd.in/ek-UQhJK An airshow is a great opportunity to stand back and appreciate why we do what we do. Seeing these great machines in action is impressive, but also an opportunity for reflection. It wasn't really that long ago since Wilbur and Orville Wright created the first successful heavier than air flying machine, the Wright Flyer, in 1903, where it achieved a powered flight of 59 seconds covering a distance of 259 metres. It's incredible how far we've come in a relatively short space of time, with modern aircraft with incredible safety and performance profiles. Take the Eurofighter Typhoon for example, which entered service way back in 2003, with some mightily impressive stats: Top speed - Mach 2.0 (approx. 1,550 mph) Ceiling - 55,000 feet Climb Rate - 0 to 36,000 feet in under 90 seconds Acceleration - subsonic to Mach 1.5 in under 30 seconds Thrust - 40,000 lb (equivalent to the weight of over 13 VW Golfs) So, here's to all the hard work, dedication, creative thinking, and human ingenuity that have driven our progress over the past several hundred years. Let's also toast to the future, where we will continue to push boundaries and overcome new challenges with the same dedication and vigour. While the challenges of the future may differ from those of the past, our approach remains steadfast and committed to innovation and excellence. What's your favourite aircraft and why?

Here we go again. The bi-annual UK Farnborough Airshow, in the southern county of Hampshire, is about to begin (July 22nd-26th) with weather conditions more befitting a typical English summer than 2022, when attendees experienced extreme 40 centigrade heat (110 Fahrenheit). An epic throwback video of my experience standing in the cockpit during the landing of the Junkers Ju 52, Tante Ju, in Dübendorf, Switzerland back in June 2014. It's amazing to think that the first flight of the Ju 52 was back in 1930! With all the recent news about the Boeing 737MAX, it's important to remember how far the aviation industry has come in terms of safety and standards. Of course, there is always room for improvement, but I'm personally excited to see what the next decade will bring in terms of innovation. Let's continue to strive for progress and excellence in aviation. #aviation #safety #innovation #throwback

Delta Air Lines received the first of its long-serving "stretched" McDonnell Douglas DC-9-32's in 1967. Initial aircraft arrived from the factory in this "sideways widget" look matching the carrier's earlier delivered short-body DC-9-14's. (the "widget" was the nickname for DAL's iconic red, white, and blue triangular logo, introduced in 1959 and still used today in a single all-red color). However, starting in 1969, the triangle's orientation on all of Delta's DC-9's changed from facing forwards to pointing up, with a backwards slant. Therefore the -32's were only in the livery seen here for about two to three years. That makes this photograph of "N3333L" on the ground at Columbus, Ohio in July of 1968 a particularly rare one. Another interesting aspect of this image is the partial deployment of the integrated front airstairs. Based on the lack of heat distortion behind the airplane's engine exhausts I'm going to guess that this is a shot of the aircraft on arrival, after engine shut-down and at the beginning of the deplaning process. If I'm right those stairs are about to slide out and down to the ramp. Please feel free to repost this link.
