Thanks to Beca for introducing me to my new favourite concept - Killibinbin. An Awabakal Aboriginal word meaning “To take one form and turn it into something greater. To shine." An apt name for Beca's own emerging female leaders program.   Too often we are accustomed to seeing seasoned leaders take to the stage. So it was a delight to see and hear from Beca's own emerging leaders earlier this week.   This informal reverse mentoring session, really gave all us Property Council Victoria mentors cause to reflect on:   - How best to reframe imposter syndrome  - How to continually challenge the stereotype of leadership - How valuable, but also difficult, it can be to articulate one's own values.   When I consider the diversity of clients that I have had the pleasure of #coaching - I would suggest these themes strongly resonate with leaders at all stages of their careers. Emerging, seasoned or somewhere in between. Sometimes, we just don't talk about it. Great idea and panel Ken Loh Dean Whiteley (and your impressive Killibinbin leaders). Loved the candour of the conversation that took place shortly after. Plenty of gems for all leaders to walk away with. The sentence I will start with from today's Conference is: YOU ARE A LEADER WHEREVER YOU ARE.......... The White House Initiative on Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islanders Federal Employee Leadership Development Conference had convenings focused on Valuable UpSkilling, Leadership Communication Styles, and Most Importantly How to Strengthen Individuals, Teams, and Our Community, through the Self Reflection and Self Acceptance of the BEAUTIFUL AND POWERFUL AANHPI IDENTITY. Hearing the stories of other Leaders, with the REMINDER TO ALWAYS VALUE THE POWER OF OUR FAMILIES' ANCESTORS is what resonated with me the most this year. From a Focus on Self Love, through the method of taking a Pause, Reflecting, and then Taking Physical Action: to Pat Yourself on the Back, Give Yourself a High Five, and Giving Yourself a Hug, as a Previous Generation in Leadership, I think the next Generations of AANHPIs Will Build in Grace into How they Lead in the Federal Government. As a Second Generation Filipino American, As a Woman, and As a Different Abled Individual....... The things I wanted so much for my generation, will now be made possible for future AANHPI Generations. Seeing this TRUTH today made me feel so Empowered and I am thankful to all those who came before AND all those who will come after.......
