It’s Fan Mail Friday! Trooper Westphal’s supervisor received a call from a motorist expressing gratitude for his assistance with a flat tire. The motorist said Trooper Westphal went above and beyond by crawling underneath his vehicle to get the spare tire to drop down. The motorist commended Trooper Westphal and said he is exactly the type of person who should be training other officers. As a retired fire department lieutenant, the motorist said that Trooper Westphal would have made a really good firefighter!

Today marks the 52nd anniversary of Trooper Pederson’s line-of-duty-death. On August 26, 1972, Trooper Donald Pederson, 31 years of age and a six-year veteran with the Wisconsin State Patrol made the ultimate sacrifice when he lost his life in the line of duty while working traffic patrol in Green Lake County. Trooper Pederson sustained fatal injuries when he was ambushed and shot by a 16-year-old he had stopped and cited earlier in the evening. . . . #NeverForgotten
