We made it to $1 million!!! 💪 💰 📈 🚀 It's kind of crazy to think that we've been able to generate $1 million just by writing code to execute trades on the stock market. Sure, it sounds simple... but it has actually been a pretty long road to get here. Ever since I started tinkering in the stock market in the early 2000's I've believed that something like this could be possible, and so it became my hobby and my passion, and I spent countless hours on evenings and weekends over the years working on it. Tried a lot of different strategies, built a lot of systems, had multiple failed partnerships, and many more failures than successes along the way. But through all of it I kept going, and often consulted with my brother Benjamin Lyman to bounce ideas off and gain his valuable insights. So it made sense that we would start LymanWealth LLC together so we could turn this system into something that not only makes money for ourselves, but that we can use to financially benefit others as well. And that's the best part: we're helping others. Yes, we absolutely could have just kept it secret to make money for ourselves, and saved a lot of hassle setting up the business and getting registered as investment advisors... but it's much, much more satisfying to know that we're lifting others and helping them achieve their financial goals. It adds purpose, if you will, to all of those hours spent over the years to get to where we are today. We're proud of what we've built and love sharing it with others. Looking forward to the coming years and achieving many more milestones! Let's see how long it takes to double again and hit $2 million captured. 😄

"Can you ever just be...whelmed?" Life has been so full since my time at the Marketing Association of Credit Unions's annual conference a few weeks back, but I've been itching to share one big takeaway from this year's conference. So, here it is: Last year, throughout my time at the MAC Conference and in the days immediately following, I recall feeling INCREDIBLY inspired but also, frankly, equally overwhelmed. This conference is a melting pot that brings together credit union marketers from across the country who represent credit unions (and vendors) of all shapes & (asset) sizes. My mind raced as I did my best to absorb all of the strategies, tools, & resources that were presented. And in the end, all I could think was: Welp, when I get back to the office, we've got to rethink EVERYTHING. Turns out, that's not the most practical takeaway. It IS, however, a great way to overwhelm yourself, and, likely, to convince yourself that you're playing tee-ball and everyone at the table around you is an MLB veteran. That's not a very encouraging mindset. This year was different. While there were just as many giants in the room, and just as many thought-provoking presentations over the course of the conference, I was decidedly committed to being inspired, but not overwhelmed. I remembered that overwhelm looks like a hamster running on its wheel, while inspiration translates to practical, bite-sized application. So...here's to trying new things, one bite-sized bit at a time. “Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow.” Truth. But wait…what do you do when tomorrow becomes today? The last few days I fell into so many rabbit holes—or, perhaps more accurately, “pushed” into so many rabbit holes 🐇. From reading the monstrously long FTC Noncompete Rule last night and then posting 3 times about it (WTF!)..to dealing with a couple client M&A “this is urgent ‼️ “ things, to getting sidetracked thinking about Rilke and Hitchens and Lessons to Young Poets and Contrarians (I’m much more the latter than the former)—thanks a lot Owen McGrann! 🎙️ Anyway, tomorrow is the day I’ll be speaking at and moderating a live, in-person discussion on cross-border M&A put together by my firm K&L Gates (details below and in the comments). We’re calling it “Navigating International Waters: Cross-Border M&A.” For those who know me, this is a once every decade opportunity to see me live and in-person—maybe wearing some kind of a suit (not sure yet), but definitely sporting a fresh pair of Air Force 1s 👟! Now, if you only know me from my posts and those “Talking Deals with David” LinkedIn live events I do from time to time, you may not realize how much of a challenge and anxiety-ridden struggle it is for me to get out in a group setting and do something like this. Usually, I just say no. In the meantime, here are a few things I’m thinking about for tomorrow ⬇️ 1️⃣ think hard about the strategic, long-term goals of the deal and the key value drivers—this will help drive a more streamlined and focused diligence process 2️⃣ get on top of the regulatory process early—more deals require CFIUS/antitrust review and are taking longer to get cleared 3️⃣ capturing and preserving value remains critical—focus on targeted diligence and be prepared to execute quickly 4️⃣ don’t forget to keep your head up and look forward not back—customer, reputational, and regulatory risks may reflect hidden costs as well as value opportunities 5️⃣ integration efforts must start well before day 1 and focus on protecting revenue drivers, customer base, and people Want to learn more?
