13 April 2024 / 4 Syawal 1445H Working part-time Part 1 "Where there is a will, there is a way. If there is a chance in a million that you can do something, anything, to keep what you want from ending, do it. Pry the door open or, if need be, wedge your foot in that door and keep it open.” ~ Pauline Kael One of the norms for students from B40 families is to work part-time. Among the 70 students currently engaged under the UMBI Programme, 25.7% reported working part-time. Of these, 33.3% work every day after school, 22.2% work on weekends, 33.3% during school holidays, and 11.1% whenever they have free time. Regarding parental awareness and support for their children's part-time jobs, 83.4% of parents are fully supportive, with 7.1% supporting their children's endeavours even if they are unaware of them. However, a total of 22.3% of parents do not support the idea of working part-time with 75% being aware and 25% both unaware and unsupportive. Our objective now is to better understand the challenges these students face, particularly those who work daily after school, and explore ways to assist them. #ProgramAnjakanMinda #ProgramUMBI #sdg4qualityeducation #sdg5genderequality #21stcenturyskills #learningskills #lifeskills #literacyskills #growthmindset #selfconfidence #csr Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) Ahmad Azri inspiraComm Nurlina Hussin Hazim Abdullah Nuha Md Sihap Misha Allysa www.inspiracomm.asia

I find myself wearing many hats in life: a woman, a spouse, a daughter, a worker, an immigrant, a community member, a native Mandarin speaker, a lifelong learner, etc. Each role has shaped my journey in unique ways. It took me quite some time to think about my next role which requires such a significant commitment. Parenthood is a personal decision, but no doubt it impacts my professional life. I'm fortunate to have an incredible partner for this new chapter; however, it's not lost on me that historically, and even today, women in Canada are likely to take more and longer parental leaves than their male counterparts. I'll be honest – I will miss my job and the part of me on campus during the leave, even though I know it will be just a short period in my life. I'm grateful for the support and guidance of many female colleagues who have shared their wisdom on navigating parenthood alongside a career. This can be another adventure. As a student affairs professional, I am obsessed with learning all the different areas of education and encouraging students to reach their full potential. So far, I look at parenthood as when I left my parents for college, studied abroad by myself, or started my first job... they are all journeys of continuous learning and adaptation. Here are some reflections on my expected parenthood: - Mass learning with hands-on experience; - Intensive independence and teamwork are involved; - Ideally, prioritization, creative problem-solving, negotiation, and flexibility are crucial skills. These skills are pretty transferrable at any workplace eh? Oh, I forgot to mention that parenthood requires a 24/7 commitment, demanding dedication and perseverance (with no paycheck). I have already learned a lot so far, and it will be much more! Thank you for accompanying me on this reflection. As I prepare to embrace this new role in several weeks, there's a contract position available to cover my parental leave. It will be a great opportunity for someone interested in career development, student programming, and student services in a post-secondary institution:

Work Experience recognition!- Supporting Future Talent in Cardiff! I'm thrilled to share that over the past year, I have had the incredible opportunity to support 74 students aged 15-16 in gaining valuable work experience across the Cardiff area. Guiding these young individuals through their first steps into the professional world has been a rewarding journey, filled with numerous successes and memorable moments. From fostering personal development to providing hands-on learning experiences, here are some highlights: Personal Development: Treated each student as a responsible young adult, helping them build confidence and maturity. Taught new skills, such as braiding in a hair salon, and provided insight into professional environments and work processes. Professional Insights: Supported students in gaining a better understanding of political processes and operations. Exposed students to big business operations, allowing them to learn from experienced professionals. Creative Contributions: Encouraged students to contribute their creative ideas, fostering an environment of innovation and engagement. Business Experience: Providing valuable opportunities to see how a business operates on a business level. Students had the opportunity to be part of recruitment, business management strategy and Human Resources and Customer Services. Working with Children: The students enjoyed the process of creating bonds and supporting children's learning needs, observing significant growth and development in the field of childcare. Hair Salon Experience: Provided valuable exposure to the salon environment, including hands-on learning in washing hair and understanding BIAB treatments and even some gaining a weekend job from the work experience! Customer Service: Demonstrated excellent customer service practices by having direct contact with customers and experienced staff. I am now eager to bring my skills, qualities, and experiences to a new company. My commitment to fostering growth, providing high-quality support, and creating positive work environments is unwavering. If your organisation values dedication and innovation, I would love to connect and discuss how I can contribute to your team. Feel free to reach out if you have any opportunities or know of a company that could benefit from my expertise! #WorkExperience #ProfessionalDevelopment #Cardiff #CareerGrowth #YouthEmpowerment #CustomerService #HairSalon #Childcare #PoliticalInsights #BigBusiness #NewOpportunities

Did you know only 1 in 4 blind and partially sighted (BPS) people are in paid employment? To stop this cycle we work with careers professionals to help them provide better support for BPS children and young people (CYP), to ensure they can confidently move into the careers that they want. We have recently launched a training offer for careers professionals covering a range of areas linked to providing the right careers advice to BPS CYP. From having those initial realistic conversations about the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead to anticipating barriers and how best to tackle them. It provides an insight into: · what is a vision impairment · the key professionals working with BPS CYP and how you can work together to ensure positive outcomes · an understanding of assistive technology and what adaptations look like · what funding is available within the world of work. Contact: EducationPolicy@pocklington.org.uk to book a training session. Or check out our resources: https://lnkd.in/dzPUXtew

This came as a “dream job” offer to me. At the same time as a mother, it also limits my ability to accept promising job offers. It can feel like a difficult trade-off between career advancement and family responsibilities. Balancing the demands of childcare with professional aspirations can often mean having to decline opportunities that don't align with your current life stage. I felt it's important to explore these possibilities and communicate openly with potential employers about my circumstances and needs. #MomCareerBalance #MomLifeBalance #WorkingMomLife #MomWorkBalance #MomCareerJourney #MotherhoodAndCareer #BalancingMotherhood #WorkingMomStruggles #CareerAndFamily

Education Time - Decided to do a short series of all the aspects of Rehab Counseling & Vocational Evaluation. Starting with a brief overview. Each week a different aspect will be focused on including what is done, the types of clients that are worked with, the potential outcome etc. I hope you enjoy and learn something along this mini journey. Ever wonder what goes into evaluating a client with a disability for potential employment? It may not seem like a lot, but it can be. The process starts with the referral from an agency, followed by scheduling the client. Once the client is scheduled, they either come in person, evaluate virtually or a mixture of both. Each of the 5 or 10 days involves academic, abilities, aptitudes, and physical agility testing. Each client is assessed from the time they check in with security until they leave the premises. They also meet with their rehabilitation counselor regularly to assess levels as well as work on any barriers that may hinder employment. This is the counseling portion of the process which happens throughout the evaluation. Once the evaluation is done a 7-to-15-page report is generated and sent to the referring agency. At that point an appointment is made with the client, the original referrer, and the counselor that the client worked with. There is no less than 40 hours dedicated from start to finish per client and this doesn’t include the newer services such as resume writing, mock interviews, job application assistance etc.
