🚧 Yorkshire Water’s Milestone Sewer Project Underneath Ilkley 🚧 Yorkshire Water has completed an 835-metre sewer underneath Ilkley, aimed at reducing the frequency and duration of discharges into the River Wharfe. This two-metre diameter sewer, completed in 16 months, can store up to 3.4 million litres of wastewater. Running underneath the A65, it connects Wharfe View car park to Ashlands playing field and then to Ilkley wastewater treatment works. The £15m interceptor sewer and detention tank will hold wastewater during heavy rainfall, storing it until it can be treated, reducing the frequency of discharges by 40% and the volume by 50%. Grassroots movements like Ilkley Clean River group have welcomed the project. Their aim is to create designated bath areas that are safe and free from sewerage. In July 2023, the project was extended with an additional 191 metres of sewer, to be commissioned in 2026. This extension ensures Yorkshire Water meets new government targets ahead of the 2035 deadline. Further upgrades are required before the extension starts operating, but it is expected to significantly reduce discharges. The debate around the pollution in our rivers is hot. Water companies are set to invest millions in the coming future. Looking ahead, there will be more projects in the waste and sewerage industry, necessitating a growing workforce with the right training. At Pragmatic we have a long history of supporting the utilities industry through the EUSR SHEA scheme. We have a SHEA Drains and Sewers course coming on the 4th of June. Why not give us a call and find out how this can also be part of your future? 🏕️ Council Future-Proofs Gogeldrie Riverside Park 🏕️ The Gogeldrie Weir campground has recently undergone significant improvements with remediation works undertaken in the transpiration bed to ensure that the site’s effluent system is being effectively managed. The upgrades were undertaken due to the previous system being unable to sustainably manage the current loading and ensured the required Section 68 approval for the ongoing operation of the site. Mayor Cr Tony Reneker highlighted the long-term benefits of the upgrade, stating, "The upgrades not only ensure that we meet current regulatory requirements but also position Gogeldrie Weir for future growth.” “By upgrading the wastewater management system, we’ve effectively futureproofed the site, allowing for potential enhancements such as the installation of cabins (should a future Council decide to pursue this), which will boost the area’s appeal for visitors and locals alike." ➡️ Full details here: https://lnkd.in/g3KymmTb #LeetonShireCouncil #CouncilNews #NewsUpdate

As LIFECYCLE BUILDING CENTER and Jimmy Mitchell and Shan Arora, J.D., LFA, and many others have been espousing for years... there is great value in salvaging building materials. Here's a poignant story of one man's mission to save some timber from a house before the excavators destroy it. Worth a quick watch! https://lnkd.in/eP3F2PTV
