What they need to be is prepared to have supportive and sensitive conversations. The role of managers has changed and it's no longer acceptable for them to avoid these conversations OR pass them to HR. Managers need to understand how to approach the sensitive and more difficult conversations, how to hold space whilst setting the appropriate boundaries and how to take care of themselves so they can show up as a leader. Performance improvement plans (PIP’s) don’t work. They are usually aimed at setting an employee up for failure. When employees don’t perform, it is more likely that leadership is weak, there is no competent coaching program in place, morale is low, and people are hired for positions they are either not prepared for, or are in the wrong seat on the bus. There are much more effective ways to address concerns with employees than this dated approach, and a savvy HR department/mindset can guide organizations to impelement a more results oriented program. #humanresources #motivation #healthcare #leadership Honor Aging
