Western Michigan University College of Aviation’s Post

At approximately 11 a.m. yesterday, a Western Michigan University Cirrus aircraft was involved in an incident requiring the deployment of the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS). Due to the decision making of the crew, and this highly sophisticated safety feature, we are very happy to state everyone landed safely in a field with no injuries. An investigation will be ongoing as to the cause of the incident and could take time. We thank you in advance for your patience and positive support of our students, faculty, and staff.

So, a fixed wing aircraft deployed a parachute& landed? It had to have been a pretty large chute. Where can we find more about this incident? Data acquisition sensors placed on the parachute risers could have provided a wealth of information. #flyingisflightest #enDAQ

Grateful for the outcome here - well done crew. 👍

This is exactly WHY we do what we do at Cirrus Aircraft! Chute happens - Live with it!
