Want to attract more people to your construction jobs? Tip number 1: 😮💨 Don't write a list of tasks. 🤗 Talk about the importance of the work. Explain why it MATTERS. ESPECIALLY for entry level jobs where you hope to attract people who know little about the trades and less about your specific trade! EXAMPLES: ****************************************** Before: Dig, spread and level dirt and gravel using pick and shovel. After: Prepare the ground for essential infrastructure by creating stable and level surfaces. ****************************************** Before: Wreck and clean concrete forms after placement. After: Enable efficient project progression by preparing sites and wrecking/cleaning concrete forms to prepare for subsequent construction stages. ****************************************** Does the before and after feel different to read? Do the subtle wording changes position the role from grunt work to purposeful work? Do the after versions indicate people will be appreciated for the work they'll do? That's just 1 tip. A lot of people in construction think there is no work-life balance, but... Some people are getting closer to it. More and more I am seeing young guys in particular move away from the Tier 1 space, and take roles with smaller builders. Money and prestige are becoming less and less what people are searching for.
