I’ve been working on Picartzo since 2016, driven by a dream to build something meaningful. Five years ago, that dream hit a wall. My strategies didn’t work, and the business couldn’t sustain itself. It felt like I had let down not just myself but also the people who believed in me and Picartzo. For a long time, I saw it as a failure. But someone recently told me, “There’s no failure or success, only learning.” And that perspective changed everything for me. Kudos to Christina Teo and encouragement to share our stories of who we are and what keeps us going 💪🏼 🌟Why I Chose a Career in Corporate Social Responsibility🌟 For the past 20 years, I've dedicated my career to the corporate social responsibility (CSR) industry, with a particular focus on labor rights. My journey began with auditing over 900 factories around Asia in the early years of my career. One experience that profoundly shaped my perspective occurred in a Christmas decorations factory. There, I met a young, skinny man with severe skin rashes and chapped lips. His condition was alarming, and I suspected he might be a juvenile worker. During our interview, I discovered that he was born on the same day as me 🤯. This realization hit me hard. It was a poignant reminder that our lives could have been so different, yet here we were, connected by a shared birthday, but separated by vastly different circumstances. This encounter reinforced my belief that there is no predetermined fate. Instead, it's about how we fight for our rights and the rights of others. It fueled my passion for ensuring that every worker is treated with dignity and respect, regardless of where they are in the world. As I continue my journey in CSR, I remain committed to advocating for labor rights and creating safer, fairer working conditions for all. I have so much more to learn about #sustainability even though I invested in several startups in sustainability through she1K C-shark Tank- FlyORO, SunGreenH2, KROSSLINKER Aerogel Solutions, Fortuna Cools, The Leaf Protein Company, Clearbot, I Am Grounded, Farmshelf, Re-Nuble, Thrilling Foods, GreenPod Labs So I gathered men and women in sustainability last night at the 2nd First Mondays happy hour. The first one we spotlighted #womenintech . What I love about these gatherings is people with common interest are meeting others for the first time and we make sure that everyone knows everyone. I spearheaded with 2 questions and everyone chimes in naturally, authentically with thoughtful insights. When I studied the profiles of my guests, I surmised that sustainability roles seem to be rather stable. People do stay in their jobs for a while (maybe not too long) and it seems the layoffs are not affecting this department. Hence I asked the group if that were their case. At #firstmondays, I like to close with asking "What is one thing you want or need help with?" Love the spontaneity and best of all, I met Sidhant Gupta for the first time after we funded him in C-shark Tank Season 2, 4 years ago, who is visiting to participate in PIER71™ acceleration. October 7th will be the next First Mondays and it will be for #HR #LearningandDevelopment folks.
