In March, student arbitrators will battle during the 31st Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot ⚔ As this edition will be arbitrated under the ICC Rules of Arbitration, we interviewed former Mootie and now ICC Deputy Counsel Fredrik Lindmark. Since his LLM, he has been heavily involved with Mooting: as a participant, coach, arbitrator, organiser, and drafter of a Moot problem. At the Vis Moot, he has been a coach and arbitrator. 🗣 “The Vis Moot is a special competition. It gives students an inside view of the arbitration process. The connections you make during the competition will be your future colleagues, either as counsel or arbitrator. #VisTheSeason Over the weekend is my pleasure to Co-Arbitrate a practice round alongside Ana Coimbra Trigo (尹安娜) and Dario Simone Palmiotti The round was between: Charleston School of Law (Claimant) 🇺🇸 And NOVA IPSI (Respondent) 🇵🇹 It was a great round and has me pumped up Vienna which is just over a month away! Although all #mooties will develop over the course of the season these final 5 weeks are CRITICAL! Here are some tips to get the most out of your final prep: 📃 Re-read the record. You’ve read it 100 times, now is a great time to make it 101+, your mastery of the facts will be an advantage! 📚 Confirm your authorities. Make sure your arguments are well founded, and that the cases you cite say what you think they say. 💡 Simply your argument. Can you concisely explain why your client should win? Try doing it in 5 minutes, you’ll be surprised what you might notice. Practice. Practice. Practice. See new case from the BC Court of Appeal regarding a bar on an appeal of an expedited arbitration under the Vancouver International Arbitration Center (VanIAC)'s Rules. https://lnkd.in/gGWKNvvK Two values at the core of VanIAC's Rules are party autonomy and the facilitation of access to justice. VanIAC's Expedited Procedures apply only if the parties have agreed to the VanIAC Rules and the value of the dispute is equal to or less than $250,000 CAD (for domestic arbitrations), or if they have otherwise opted into those procedures regardless of the quantum of the dispute. Parties are also free to agree to opt out of the of the Expedited Procedures in whole or in part. Expedited Procedures prevent lengthy and expensive appeal proceedings that detract from the finality, expediency, affordability, and efficiency of the proceedings. A party to an arbitration may seek leave to appeal to the Court of Appeal on any question of law arising out of an arbitral award unless the arbitration agreement expressly states that the parties to the agreement may not appeal any question of law arising out of an arbitral award. #VanIAC #Arbitration #ExpeditedArbitration

Dear Connections, As you know we have already submitted our memorandums for both the Claimant and the Respondent as Yeditepe University Vis Moot Team.
