Significant progress is being made on Livv Housing Group’s new social rent housing scheme in Kirkby, Merseyside. Situated on the former site of the Farmers Arms pub on Mossborough Drive, this £2.6million development will introduce 20 high quality, cottage-style apartments, providing much-needed affordable housing in the area. The development will include a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments, each with its own front door at street level. The homes will be spread across two ‘L’-shaped, two-storey buildings, which will surround a central courtyard with parking and communal gardens for residents to enjoy. We are really excited about this project, which offers the potential to deliver 15 sustainable homes in a great location. All of the homes across Laxton Properties' developments are A-rated at EPC, with solar panels and Air Source Heat Pumps as standard. It costs us more to hit the A rating, but we just think it is the right thing to do. We have designed this project to facilitate the use of Modern Methods of Construction as part of our ongoing journey towards even greater sustainability, with an eye towards carbon neutrality in the future.

WEST DENTON WELCOME: It was great to welcome friends and stakeholders recently to an open morning at our exciting new Hillhead Road affordable homes development in West Denton.   Despite the weather, a good number dropped in to discover more about the £7.3 m scheme, designed by P+HS Architects, which will eventually see a mix of 45 two, three and four residential properties constructed for Karbon Homes. The properties, which are available for rent, shared ownership and rent-to-buy, are playing a significant part in helping to meet the huge demand for affordable social housing in Newcastle and the wider region. In terms of occupied plots, 25 have residents and there are a couple more awaiting imminent handover, Adderstone Living Managing Director Stephen McCoy (pictured with other team members at the event), said: “It was good to catch up with so many people, including our friends form Homes England, to let them see for themselves what a terrific scheme this is as it nears final completion. “The sustainable design, construction and placemaking we have built in are key to realising the development’s scope and vision, making it suitable for homeowners with a wide variety of needs. There’s a big shift underway in the type of housing being built in Charlotte. Construction of single-family homes, which for years have been a key component of Charlotte’s housing supply, is waning. Taking their place: townhomes. In 2023, for the first time, the number of building permits for townhomes surpassed the number for single-family detached homes in Mecklenburg County. Since 2020, the number of permits for townhomes has nearly doubled, while single-family permits have fallen by 1/3. The new development at 1848 Vyse Avenue in the South Bronx marks a significant addition to the area, especially given the rarity of large residential projects in recent months. Spearheaded by Dunn Development, this 11-story building will cover approximately 90,000 square feet and feature 120 residential units, with a portion designated for low-income housing. The project, confirmed as a rental development, also includes a parking garage and highlights Dunn Development's commitment to affordable housing, evident in their past projects like the Bergen Saratoga Apartments and Frost Street Apartments. The development, located just below the Cross Bronx Expressway near East 176th Street, is near another Dunn project, Via Vyse, at 1812 Vyse Avenue—a supportive and affordable housing project itself. Despite the proximity and simultaneous purchase of the properties in 2016 for about $7.1 million, the connection between Via Vyse and the new development remains unspecified. This initiative emerges as one of the very few projects exceeding 100 units filed in the city lately, with only three others noted in March—all in Brooklyn. The recent state budget's provisions, including a new affordable housing tax break and incentives for office-to-residential conversions, may further encourage these developments.
