The message is clear: Products developed without user input miss the mark. They fall short in revenue, user experience, and global impact. We need diverse perspectives of all users and there's no better way to do this than to have women as part of every team seeing that men are already well represented. Let's work towards inclusive teams for better products for everyone. #IWDKigali2024 #IWD2024 #ImpactTheFuture #gradschool
We cannot agree more with what the President of the Student Guild at Carnegie Mellon University Africa, NJODZEKA ULRICH N. says. That women do have a lot of contributions to make towards a product, for instance...😊🤗 Watch the full testimonial here: #IWDKigali2024 #ImpactTheFuture #gradschool GDG Kigali Women Techmakers Kigali Carnegie Mellon University Africa Iradukunda Cynthia Pacifique Linda IKIREZI delphine nyaboke

Nigeria's potential for transformative change remains stifled as long as women are marginalized from positions of power. The Vice Chancellor's acknowledgment of the impact of women in leadership is a crucial step, but it's time to move beyond acknowledgment to action. We need more women in decision-making roles, championing policies that tackle gender inequality and promote inclusive development. #NigeriaWomen #WomenInPolitics #NoWomanNoNation #WomenInPower #GenderParity #NigeriaDeservesBetter #LeadershipNotTokenism #EmpoweringWomenEmpowersNations https://lnkd.in/enRWtDY2

Equality, diversity and inclusion measures in academic institutions are often implemented by specific units, but equality work can be seen in a larger context. In this article by Eivind August Westad Stuen, Nordic umbrella organisations representing universities and university colleges describe how they support equality efforts - directly or indirectly. All the Nordic organisations for universities and university colleges believe that the educational institutions should have the main responsibility. Some have declarations on common principles, task forces or contact points where EDI issues are raised. Rector Sunniva Whittaker of Universities Norway gives priority to equal access to higher education and universities and university colleges as places of diversity. Women faced a rapidly shifting world in the 20th century. I find Jess MacArthur so inspiring. She was trying to shine a light on women as the unseen heroes of the sanitation sector in Nepal when she realized that to raise broader awareness of what she was seeing in the field, she needed to become "bilingual" in academia and industry approaches. Her goal with her PhD was to “blend the style of research that I know works from an industry perspective into the language and the methods that are coming from the academic world so that we can build a more trustworthy foundation” for the critical work that she believed needed to be done. As she points out, "industry knowledge is something that you can't teach at a school," so the point was never to try to use her PhD to replace it, but to enable it to go further. Now with dual roles at Save the Children US and UTS Institute for Sustainable Futures, Jess is supporting research-led practice for NGOs. Her work has created a set of online tools to help others working in gender equality and social inclusion programs to improve their qualitiative monitoring, evaluation, and learning practices. Because non-profits don't just want to do good, they want to be able to do it well. https://lnkd.in/gMr46ehE #phd #research #innovation #WASH #water #publichealth #ngo #researchimpact
