One of the biggest indicators of the future of #ClimateChange can be pointed to the Salton Sea. For the past four years, Dr. Ryan Sinclair, associate professor at the LLU School of Public Health, has dedicated his research to the science and public health of the Salton Sea. Research, Analysis and Fiscal Governance Division at Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Slovenia
Ageing costs in Slovenia are expected to increase from 22.1% of GDP in 2022 to 26.0% of GDP in 2045 and to 27.5% of GDP in 2070. With the exception of education expenditure, all categories of age related public spending are expected to increase by 2070, but to the largest extent pension expenditure (from 9.8% of GDP in 2022 to 13.7% of GDP in 2070), which otherwise represent the highest share of total ageing costs. Long-term budgetary projections for Slovenia have improved considerably, which has important implications for public finance sustainability. Total ageing costs are expected to increase by 2.7 percentage points less than in the Ageing Report 2021. The projections of all spending categories have improved, but the most for pension expenditure (by 1.9 percentage points). So happy I got to be a part of this! :) Katja Lautar Franci Kluzer

Happy to share that after 3 years of extensive work, the 2024 edition of the Ageing Report prepared with my Commission colleagues (and the EPC-AWG) is finally out! This report presents the projections showing the economic and budgetary impact of an ageing population over the long term. This edition also includes a conceptual box I wrote on the interaction between climate change and population ageing. The report can be consulted at: https://lnkd.in/evxqCKQU

Business executive transforming markets and new ventures with strategic innovation, partnerships, sales, and data initiatives. Achieving results through effective communication, leadership, and analytical thinking.
This is an insightful read by Ryan Meres with RESNET. I love that we have this level of insight because data is available to measure and analyze it. It still astonishes me that the most desirable areas of the country in which to live are also the areas experiencing significant impact from a changing climate and resource stress, like water - the focus of this paper. https://lnkd.in/e5P5D-mi

Today’s political climate often reduces complex issues like modernizing our transit infrastructure to binary choices, making everyone worse off if those solutions fail. Moreover, such framing often creates a city versus suburbs conflict when the entire region suffers if the MTA collapses. We need congestion pricing, but the current plan doesn’t fit our present realities. Instead of using a playbook from five years ago, let’s develop one for today. Check out the piece that Scott Rechler and I wrote in the New York Daily News: https://lnkd.in/e_hqsWfA

U.S. states are key to national and global climate action. Here’s why 👇 💰 States are where the rubber meets the road. States make daily decisions that affect climate change and economic opportunities. Many federal policies, regulations, and grant programs, for example, are implemented by states. ⏩ States ensure continuous progress. States set ambitious climate commitments and advance policies to address climate change, improve air quality, and drive economic growth. 💡 States provide policy innovation and catalyze regional and federal action. States craft innovative solutions to meet their own unique set of political, economic, and social circumstances. CATF works with state legislatures, governors’ officers, executive agencies, local communities, and more to help states achieve their economic, environmental, and public health goals through climate action.
