I've been thinking about my impact on the environment as a digital nomad 🌎 As we've been traveling, I've wondered how travelers can stay eco-friendly along their journey. There are some clear simple solutions: - Packing reusable items like shopping bags and water bottles. - Taking public transportation wherever possible (or walking to destinations instead of driving). - Reusing clothes (instead of shopping in a new area every time) What I'm unsure of though is how I can measure my impact while working in a new location for a month. I don't have access to a monthly energy usage statement for the places we stay, so it feels like all I can do is be mindful of spending less time on a computer when possible, and limiting usage of lights. Recently, I've been reading and engaging with news and literature on food security. 🍇 I've been trying to conceptualise what food security can look like, when you go beyond a human-centred (anthropocentric) perspective, to see how the debate could change. While this topic is inherently anthropocentric, bringing it to the post-anthropocene can help in conceptualising more sustainable frameworks for food production and consumption.🍳 Let me leave you with the question; what does food security look like for a bee? 🐝 #climatecrisis #foodsecurity #anthropocene #climate

My biggest Earth Month takeaway was a deeper appreciation of the scale and depth of fear women have about sharing different opinions, particularly on sensitive issues like climate, energy, justice and sustainability. When I've been digging deeper with clients, it's clear they have some very real and very rational fears of being criticised and punished for speaking up online or in-person. I do too. This isn't Imposter Sydrome (which I think is a load of BS anyway) - they've all had experiences in the past that have made them rightfully wary. I've been going back to Audre Lorde's essay "The Transformation of Silence into Language and Action" to remind myself of the much bigger and existential perspective we need, if we're going to motivate ourselves to speak even when we're afraid. Lorde realised on a very deep level, as she was waiting to find out whether a lump she found was cancerous, that we can't escape suffering and even death, so we need to choose what we want to be uncomfortable about. I spent a weekend away on retreat, reflecting on the teachings of the Tibetan Book of the Dead, which was helpful to contact my own inevitable impermanence. I came back with more focus and more courage. But it also confirmed how deeply I hold onto my own sense of security - how I find it difficult to stand my ground if I think "something" will be taken away from me. We need to hold our fear and hiding with compassion and create supportive conditions - including community - to work with them. Otherwise we'll just keep throwing ourselves out of our comfort zone in ways that don't have helpful outcomes for anyone. #womeninenergy #earthday #earthmonth #sustainablebusiness #womeninclimate #carbon #letstalkclimate #womenandclimate

My biggest takeaway is that Earth Month is so much more meaningful and impactful when honored and experienced with a group and community. While it’s great to see companies honor earth day with their customers, first and foremost, honor earth month with employees. What was your biggest takeaway?
