Gender diversity is crucial in all professions, including nursing. Having a diverse nursing workforce benefits patients, healthcare organizations, and the nursing profession as a whole. According to research, male nurses bring unique communication styles, problem-solving skills, leadership abilities, and physical strength to the profession, contributing to better patient outcomes and interdisciplinary teamwork. Additionally, having a gender-diverse nursing workforce can help address gender-based stereotypes in nursing and overcome gender barriers in leadership positions. Overall, diversity in nursing is essential for providing inclusive, high-quality, and equitable healthcare services. This is why at BJC Healthcare we are intentional in supporting our male clinicians and young males in our communities who are choosing a career in healthcare and specifically a career in nursing.

This report is of serious concern. Florida Nurses Flunking ?! This is truly an opportunity for Nurses in Charge Inc as we seek to support this data and take action regarding the implementations of the proposed solutions. As clearly Identified by the data here are some ways in which Nurses in Charge Inc can truly align to mitigate our nursing pipeline issues here in Florida. We are available and willing to meet with Healthcare and Education Leadership to develop Mentorship programs for students. Marcos A. Sanchez-Gonzalez, MD, PhD, MSMEd, LSSBB has been leading our education committee to provide professional development training for nurses. Is it possible some of our local educators and hospitals support and implement these supplementary programs? Melissa Mills is passionately leading our efforts to create professional development and education to support and empower CNA’s LPN’s and those members of our team who will be our future nurses. Can we align with current nursing programs to have the support and attention of their students to connect them to these courses? Nyempu Karmue-Hall DNP MSN, FNP, RN, CNA, PMH-BC is dedicated to growing Mentorship for students and new nurses. Can we support the launch of scheduled virtual drop in sessions for students across the state who may need additional support and strategies? Can we have volunteer nurses donate 1 hr to support our drop in zoom breakout rooms to provide the additional help and encouragement to help our students pass NCLEX exams? I have also been working on connecting Nurse Practioners with Community Models of Care that work. Can we spread and share the models of care that have been successful for many years. I am really calling for serious collaboration from the very excellent and world renowned models of care such as Harris Rosen Rosencare as developed and led by Kenneth Aldridge, Jr., RN,BSN, MS-HSA or boosting the funds and reach of Central Florida Health Care, Inc. or replicating Dr. Traci's House developed by Traci Thompson MD, MBA whose model has garnered the interest and research from across the country. These are all Florida Based Initiatives and models of care that within their own jurisdiction are working to provide practical solutions to rural and underserved populations. As a Nurses in Charge Inc member I would be so honored to reach out and facilitate the collaboration and dissemination of these models that work to improve areas of disparity and improve outcomes for our communities. The Florida Center for Nursing "2023 NCLEX Report" - https://lnkd.in/e2TNEW-v This report provides information about Florida’s NCLEX pass rates. BSN-RN/DNP Candidate ∘ Palm Beach Atlantic University ∘ Class of 2027∘ Experience In Hospital Volunteering | Health Care
Florida Staffing Ratios In Hospitals I am enrolled in a graduate nursing course called Healthcare Policy and Advocacy. A topic that has been on my mind is nursing issues within hospitals. As of 2024, Florida has no laws about working ratios in hospitals, but only literature has supported that they are mandated for nursing homes. This law can be found in Florida statute, 2013, chapter 400.23. A mandated ratio is important because of the increased workload of nurses and the satisfactory burn rate quality of care. There is a bill that has been called the Safety and Quality Care Act introduced in 2023; a quote from this bill states, “Four patients in medical-surgical units, intermediate care nursery units, acute care psychiatric units, and other specialty care units (GovTrack.us.2023).” California was the first state to implement a nursing ratio mandate to change patient ratios and followed suit in Pennsylvania in June 2023. Hopefully, Florida will have a change to help nurses have a safer working environment and ensure safety and quality care. •GovTrack.us. (2023.). H.R. 2530 — 118th Congress: Secure Border Act of 2023. A study delving into the experiences of male nursing undergraduates reveals that they face higher levels of marginalization compared to their female counterparts. This is due to gender biases and stereotypes, creating a complex environment in both societal perceptions and clinical settings. To address these challenges, it is recommended to implement targeted recruitment strategies, increase faculty diversity, and develop an inclusive curriculum. By fostering an environment that embraces diversity, nursing programs can empower male students to thrive alongside their peers. Given the workforce shortages in the nursing profession, it is crucial to include more male nurses for holistic patient care, breaking down barriers and shaping a more inclusive future. Let's work together to create a nursing profession that truly reflects the diversity of our patients. #nursingdiversity #malehealthcareprofessionals #inclusivitymatters #MeninNursing

Leading trauma-informed nurses to prevent traumatic births and begin healing | 🚀 220K+ followers | 🎙 Podcast Host, Author, Speaker, Healthcare Consultant
What a rollercoaster this time around - here are my biggest takeaways. 1. The topics we discuss and the perspectives that we daringly squeeze into mainstream nursing publications are DIFFICULT. -They often cause our nervous systems significant turmoil as WE WRITE THEM! So it's no wonder that we often receive revisions/comments from highly activated nurses. (we have even discussed a first-read protocol for how to first-read the revisions or edits emails) 2. We live, breathe, dream this work - but not everyone in perinatal nursing does :P So we often have to backtrack ideas and concepts; slow the train way down. There are still so many terms that have dual meanings, are misunderstood, or haven't made it into nursing journals the way we wish to see (hence why we're adding our perspective to the mix!). A lot of the revisions are for this reason. Oop I'm a co-author on a manuscript currently in the revision pipeline of a well-respected nursing journal. 🎉 Stay tuned for the ACCEPTANCE post 😉 We are independent scholars. We don't have significant experience inside academia that lends itself to viewing, absorbing, and experiencing the Behind The Scenes of journal publications. As we naively navigate this new territory, it becomes increasingly clear that the only reason we continue to do so is because we have each other and we continue a daily practice of nervous system regulation, debriefing, and peer counseling. More on that soon. I'm curious what your take is on nursing journal publishing? What's your experience been? #traumainformedcare #obnurse #nurses #peanutballs #nurseeducation #nursemanager #laborandelivery #patientadvocacy #obstetrics #laboranddeliverynurse #nurseleader Image source: The Birth Nurse, https://lnkd.in/eHcQTZbf @thebirthnurse

Why don’t we talk about the contribution of MALE NURSES? In a world that often views nursing as a female profession, male nurses' dedication and hard work are frequently overlooked. They work side by side with their female colleagues, providing care, compassion, and support in the most challenging situations. Yet, their contributions rarely get the recognition they deserve. Male nurses are there in the ICU, in the emergency rooms, and in the wards, caring for patients with the same passion and dedication. They break stereotypes every day, choosing a profession driven by empathy, not gender. It’s time we recognize and celebrate the efforts of every nurse, regardless of gender. Male nurses are an integral part of the healthcare system, making a difference in countless lives. Let’s change the narrative. Let’s appreciate the contributions of all nurses who give their best to care for others. Can you show your support to them by commenting on your thoughts? P.S. I am not undervaluing the role of female nurses. #MaleNurses #HealthcareHeroes #NursingProfession #BreakTheBias
